Couldnt imagine chopping a top for this guy. The shop could chop a top for less than 10k on a pre '36 but not on a round top, double that for a big car!

  2. Baby Lincoln is just like chopping a Merc. You won't find ANYBODY who will chop one for $5k. There's lots of work involved, lots of smoothing and reshaping the windows, garnishes, etc. Best Merc guy I know is slddnmatt,in Riverside. 5K won't answer his phone! I was wondering what kind of car you were asking about, cause chopping a Model A is quite a bit less than a big round car. I'm sure you're aware we were all having some fun at your expense, since you're an FNG...

How about a pic of what you're starting with? What area do you live in? Kinda curious what shop told you 9K.

Wow things sure have gotten tense around the ol HAMB lately.
Even after the guy apologizes (for comments that I didn't happen to take personally in the 1st place) the jabs keep comin' 5 pages later.
Guess we all should remember to be a lot more careful about our questions and how we phrase them and for gods sake use spellcheck too!
Either that or we consider a new policy that goes something like...
If we don't like the question, or the way it's asked, or we don't have the answer...
We move to the next one.
Seems the HAMB is becoming a pretty up tight place these days.
    Just a thought

sorry bad bob but i wont name the shop simply because im not here to out anyone..and dont sweat the razing.. im a big boy and thik skinned.. again, i was pissed and let that guy get my goat. happens to all sooner or later. my reason for not droppin names is i dont know if this clown is just an employee and that wouldnt be fair to the actual owner of the shop. and if he was the owner it was handled allready. if it was just a bad day then its over and he wont treat others that way, if that is how he is all the time then he will be out of business soon enough. or maybe he can turn it into an import tuner shop....................

  7. It has always been like this.
Tell me any Forum that isn't.

  8. BTW,I'm pretty sure KiwiKev won't chop a Merc. I think he's more into Hotrods.

    The shops I know of are;
    Townsend Customs(slddnmatt)Riverside
    Sledsville,Riverside
    Merc John,Riverside
Hotrods and Hobbies(more high end cars though)
    Ian Berky,Burbank
    Keith Dean
    Gene Winfield,Desert
    Bobby Radclif,Temecula area

    I'm sure there's some i'm forgetting.

ok my car is a shop right now getting chopped. my friend owns the shop. i shopped around to see wht the prices were going to be. . the reason i took it to him 1st was his skills. 2nd was id rather give my money to someone i know. he has only chopped 2 cars. a 54 ford post and a 41 lincoln zephyr. seeing how those came out i know i want him to do it. also my friend told me to get down there and help with it. so im there helping with my chop. he is charging me less then 4k to do it.

if your going to farm out the work. make sure you get to see what they have done. not just pictures. look at them in person.

also when you say so. cal. so. cal is a big place.

If you are talking a rat rod hack chop job and don't care for quality Im sure you could get that a little cheaper .I hope for your sake everything turns out OK and you get what you want.Just make sure whoever does it knows what there getting into. You should ask to see his previous chops.Remember BONDO can cover hack metal work.If you expect Quality be prepared to pay for it. Good luck!

ruckus man...how do I say this?..

    1. "Sorry kids"
= A further demeaning insult when obviously focused to the presence of adults........

    2. "serious dik hed"
= Name calling, in addition to partially diverting the blame on a cause other than yourself. He, can't take ownership for your tantrums.

    3. "thinks hes gonna be the next big thing on discovery channel or sumthin."
= A further insult on someone in an attempt to project the focus away yourself. Stop hiding from yourself, own your mouth before it owns you.

    4. "that set the tone for my post not to mention i wrote it at 5am."
= Deflection, projection - like I said own that mouth man.

    5. "maybe should have slept on it first but the whole encounter just really pissed me off."
= "maybe"... As in, that MIGHT have been something to take accountability for... Not "maybe" bro...........

    6. "i re read it and realized i didn't do the true craftsmen any justice and i used one encounter with one arrogant tool to generalize."
= Good work, focus here if you intend to stay on this site and profit from our experience.

    7. "so to you who know what ur doin i apologize."
= Only those who know what they're doing? Which you are a proper judge of?? Which logically through negation means that you still think you're above a certain segment of the population here. That superiority complex shit is why you were bent over; for your sake, see it.

    8. "to those here just to run your mouths i DONT apologize."
= People are running their mouths in an attempt to teach you to not tank before you run out of chances here. It's swift, poignant, and repetitive...the-first-time...because we don't usually tolerate people with your characteristics beyond strike 2. Take it as a favor from here on out; if we make our boundaries loud and clear, its in your best interest to fully own your personality - period.

    9. "after thinking about it, maybe dude just had a shit day and took it out on me."
=Don't deflect criticism and project your personality traits on others, own yourself man.. Maybe, you fucked up big and someone took time out of there day to straighten you out like men do. You get slack at home with Mom - if you're lucky - out here with the wolfs you get bit. A word of advice, in the adult world don't focus on the bite of others, focus on the cause - knowing always that its you that will have to change every time to avoid a repeat.

    10. "never the less..be professional, that is not how u get customers my friend."
=Trying to teach about manners? Don't run before you crawl man, this is going to piss us off. There is no payoff for you in that..

    11. "and dont think just cuz people on here talk shit to me that they have your back. they would be embarrased by u."
=There's wisdom buried in here about your prior experiences, look deeper into what you said here and find it.

    12. "thanks for the p.m.,s ill be lookin into sum of those. and for those who cant afford a shrink but need to vent, keep em comin little buddy"
=Good start - before you started playing hard again... Do you see the cycle here? You're not better, smarter, more entitled, above, anyone or anything ever. Be humble and stay here or stay hard.. But remember this, there's strength in numbers. Human accomplishment is defined by collectivity, period. If you chop that top yourself, you're doing it with welding, metal working, materials, etc technology that was afforded to you by collective gain. If it's logical to see the benefit in the social micro-scale it's logical in the social macro.. HEAR what we're saying bro..

    -----------
1."the car is a baby lincoln and im not tryn to dig myself out of anything."
=Do you see why you should be? Do you you see the pay off in totally owning yourself with no projections and deflections? After owning yourself do you see the payoff in coming clean and asking for our forgiveness. We don't give a shit if you say your sorry bro - digging is all you got until you earn your respect. The first step to that is asking for forgiveness from outside. When WE give you a second chance, that's when you get a second chance from US - that's logical, right?

2."and its not that i didnt respond, its that i just woke up. i posted sumtime around 5am then hit the sak. and without gettin into all the details yea, the dude was a tool."
= You tell me now, how did you fuck up on this statement?

3."and no, i didnt walk in looking for a price sheet. as i allready stated, i dont know what caused the guy to act as he did, weather thats just his way or if it was a shit day for him. either way i dont really care. u disrespect me u can expect the same in return. 9k was his answer after 1 question. which was what kind of car???"
=Hear what you said in the middle of that sentence - (u disrespect me u can expect the same in return.)....(u disrespect me u can expect the same in return.) ---- Now, I'm not going to comment on this one, and it would be smart if you didn't. It would be wise and prudent for you to just think about it and own it. We don't want your excuses, or, any further weak apologies. Re-read this until you know what to do before you act again. If you don't, haste and impatience is likely a major part of the problem if you should choose to recognize the wisdom here later.

Bro, before you speak further, in any way shape or form recognize that I'm the best friend you've got. I took the time out of my day and what was the payoff? It was for you bro. Don't forget that before your next action. This can be a first to a lot of great advice on the HAMB, don't fuck it up for yourself man by being backwards. Remember what I said about strength in numbers... Own yourself in life, make no excuses, your actions are your vote on how the world should be. You haven't been banned, yet. It's on you what happens now...

^^^better now than down the road with the guy crying about how he didn't know what was going on.

This thread sucked from the get-go...it was some guy bitching about prices-somehow morphed into a call for service???

The only thing that kept this from becoming a complete s%$tstorm was Ian and his vvacky keyboard!:p

To those who think people climbed on and rode the guy hard: yeah, and? What happens in real life when someone you don't know walks up to a group of people known for not taking attitude and they start in with what can only be described as a diatribe?

That's right, they get their ass handed to them. Real men own it, stand up, and are usually accepted when they drop the b.s. Others wander away, never to be seen again, except perhaps in some R.R. site posting about keyboard commandos or some other equally ludicrous crap...

...and in case you're wondering, no, I'm not some car chopping God, I'm just a dude who spent his life working heavy industry with people who took no s%$t and gave no s%$t, so do what you want with this, all I intended to say was: listen to grim, he really is trying to help you.

i've been in the garage all day, sorry I missed the drama (damn). In my experiences with guys like this, I might drop the price a little to make a friend but I've found the ones that want it cheap are the ones that bitch and nitpick the job the most.

love your work man..kep it up

  28. Which is why I've said he's not worth working for. I've had my own business for more than 20 years. You can tell in the intro whether someone is going to bitch about cost the entire time and find shit to disparage even if your work is near perfect.

those are the people you ask for cash up front, charge full price and get them to sign a disclaimer. Everyone else can work on a handshake, but you can tell when someone will be a pain in the ass. Walking in, asking for price first, then bitching before you even discuss what needs to be done is a sure sign of things to come.

So what have we learned today? That to make friends you should speak as you like to be spoken to, and Top Chops are not cheap.
