Tony, the Ron Dunn car still exists and is at SAR in Portland. The front end of the car in the pic was damaged shortly after it was completed and restyled during the subsequent repair. but you know I'm biased for this Valley Custom car.

The year the car came off the assembly line. From the OP: ... so Matranga's '40 Merc doesn't "qualify" in the context of this thread.
Just went to the peterson museum on saturday and I saw this valley custom in person for the first time.
If I had to pick one from the 1950s era it would be "The Hawaiian"..or better known as the Hirohata Merc.
