  1. How about Gene Adams B/GS 50 Olds. Pretty much cleaned house in 1957.
Wasn't an "old" car either, at the time.

    Larry Kalsch from Hillsboro Oregon.
He was the shop foreman at my first machine shop job in early 70s.
Ford SOHC wizzard, saw him making his cog belt cam drive changeover.
Built a cammer powered RED with a top loader 4 speed.

  3. Wayne Harry was a fellow Slo-Pok with Jack Coonrod and partner in the Kamikazie Koupe (The yellow33 Willys ). This car predates that car, should be 62-63? I dunno, Marty knows all!

I found these pictures on another Hamb thread and it shows a 37-38 Willys A/Gas coupe that ran a Chrysler in 1956. It was from Denton Texas. It ran at the Kansas City nationals and Caddo Lake tracks and was owned by George Gilmore. This is the earliest Willys Gasser that I have ever seen documentation of. If anyone knows of an earlier one I would love to see it. image.jpg image.jpg

On another note I think that the question boils down to Gassers of which time period? Although there were many later influential gassers I was trying to stick to Hamb era Gassers. Also many of the ones that I posted were interesting and well known it their region they weren't the most influential gassers of their time. I think that with the recient popularity of gassers many of the younger generation don't know anything about what rules a gasser had to fall into to be legal historically but just think that anything with a straight axle and a nosebleed stance is a Gasser because that is what they see in the magazines.

If we apply the HAMB cut-off-rule of 1965 a lot of the cars pictured above disappear..
    .....just sayin'.......

  8. The drag car threads are looser than others, cause it's all kind of the 60's era. I don't think Ryan or most HAMB'ers are bothered by it.
Gassers, like front motor dragsters, altereds etc are pretty much ancient history!

  9. Now THAT's a great idea!
Start it and I'll go crazy on it!
It was a sad day when NHRA ditched the class, there was so much protest they postponed it's death by a year! Top gas racing was fast, close and cool.
I don't think many people remember that "Top Eliminator" used to be the fastest cars, regardless of class or fuel. Sometimes gas cars were FASTER than the fuelers!
    Wild times!

  12. I don't think so, it's easy. Just like Top fuel only gas! Would be AA/GD! Let in bb/GD and call it good! Supercharged cars only.

  15. Well then we will publicly reprimand and scorn them!

Right Dave Downs and the cut off date is why the hamb USED to be the best vintage car site around. That rule don't seem to be enforced any more.

Wouldn't a cut off date of pre 65 rules get rid of all the Anglias? Or are you talking pre 65 cars raced any year?

  20. I disagree! There is very little post 64, except stuff like current products, but hardly a "street rod" or muscle car site. Like I said, the drag stuff is a little different, WHY the problem? Jeez.

No falcongeorge I'm talking about post 60 and post 89. Top fuel wing on a willys with modern parts nothing 60s about it. Maybe it's just me but that's not what the hamb is all about.

  23. Well you are correct on those posts, but I think DDDenny is a good guy that just didn't know, and won't do it again. Riiiiiight? He's right, no wings those are modern "nostalgia" cars.
Which brings us back to what a REAL gasser is! Not a funny car/pro mod or pro stock chassis! A GASSER! A production car chassis!

Production car chassis until 1967 I think. Could have been 68 but I think 67 they changed the rule because of unibodies.

A little history on Wayne's 36 pickup, in '61 Wayne Harry, along with Earl Foyd (first driver of the "Northwind" AA/FD) built the truck with a 180 degree Merc flathead. It ran F/G, and was a screamer, and in '62 Wayne partnered with Lloyd Clemans, and they put his 4-71 blown flathead in it. In '63 Bill Lewis teamed up with Wayne, installing Bill's blown Olds (394 platform), the one in the picture. In '64 Wayne Teamed up with Jack Coonrod, using Jack's Chrysler. The truck is now on the street, with a 428 Ford, with Webers. Lewis-Harry.jpg

Instead of the kids looking to the H.A.M.B. for historical accuracy they could just buy a copy of Don Montgomery's book Supercharged Gas Coupes.
