my brother is looking to get a top for his roadster. its a brookville body, traditional style car. he hasent found one that would look right with the car. any suggestions? thanks -jeff
Make one. I made a folding top but had to deal with trimmers. It flaped at speed. Made a glass top with boat supplies. Metalshapes built a great top from metal. Do a search.
This is a stock type frame chopped 2" The slant of the rear curtain was important to me so I chopped the bows myself to get that profile. The "Bop top" is close to what I wanted but way over priced IMHO. I'm making card board cut outs for the window openings to give to the trimmer so that I get what I want. If you are going to run a top it has to look right.
2 leads--there's an old issue of HRM, I think about 1967, with full dimensional drawing of stock Ford top frames. With that, you could lash up a replica of the stock irons from five dollars worth of strap steel and start chopping to suit. Anyone have the citation on that? Second, there was an excellent '32 top chopping discussion here in the last couple of weeks, with two different approaches to shaping the lid shown.
I made a frame and tried several configurations before I was satisfied.I made a header out of ash and first off ran 2"masking tape from front to back and drew a mailslot back window on it then looked and looked at every angle.next i got an old sheet and cut it about and pinned it on the header with thumb tacks and pulled it tight and taped it down.finally when satisfied I got the frame powder coated and the top stitched up out of mohair(whatever a mo is).Turned out just as I wanted,,,the side window opening is crucial to the correct look in my opinion.
