Has anybody ever cut out a fiberglass top for a louvered top insert? If so how thick is the top of a normal top? Thanks for any help you can give me.

  2. I've never cut a f'glass top apart but based on other places I've cut through I'd guess 1/8 to 1/4". You'll probably want to build some sort of wooden jamb around the inside of the opening to approximate a steel cars opening so that you'll have something to attach the insert to.

    Good luck.

  3. Uh, let see. Where is all the water going when it rains. Or maybe surface mount the panel, then water gets trapped between the two. I don't know for sure what you should do.

  4. If it's a glass top why even go through the trouble of cutting it out,,just install the louvered top insert over the existing top. HRP

I lengthened my turret and it was about 1/4" thick with a rigid foam filler center. The sides of the top did not have this.

punch some louvers in a panel, use a router to cut a recess into the roof, and mount the panel flush.

That's how I would do it.

This sounds like the best idea to me also. I would use aluminum for the louvered insert.
