Any info on the aluminum case ford top loader RUG series trans? I know the fourth gear is overdrive and it is an internal rail shifter but that's is about all I know. How strong is it? does it compare to the iron case ones? Will the Jeep shifter fit the top of this case to make it a floor shifter? Thanks for any info that can be given. I'm looking at one to put behind a mild Olds 425 in my 46 ford coupe with 3:73 gears.
some info http://www.5speeds.com/toploader.html I think you'll find the Jeep shifter would make it have a weird shift pattern, 1 and 4 up, 2 and 3 down. Might want to see if you can find the Mopar type overdrive manual transmission that Chevy used in 80s trucks, I think they made some of them with the GM type front (mounts/input shaft) so it would be a bolt in.
thanks Squirrel, Anyone know what exact year chevy truck I should look for, and is that Mopar trans overdrive in fourth.
The mopar trans is overdrive in fourth. Brad54 knows all about them...he might have better year info for you. you could search for posts of his on the subject.
Searched and found good info on a post from Brad54. If I can find one of these, I'll modify the bearing retainer to fit my olds bellhousing. the rest should be easy.
