Technical Torq Thrust Wheel Question

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by idigchoppers, Jan 10, 2016.

  1. Can anyone tell me the difference between Torq Thrust VN405, VN505 & VN515 wheels. I know that 405s and 505s are 2 piece and 515s are one piece. Which is better two piece or one. The 515s are also a lot cheaper. I am looking for a 15x10 size with a 5x4.5 bolt pattern and 3.75 - 4 inch backspace which all 3 come in. Just wandering which is best and why? Tried googling for hours and can't seem to find any answers.

  2. All else being equal, I'd go with the one piece. More traditional looking, the two piece are close but not the same. The only advantage I can think of that the two piece have is with their rolled rather than cast rims, they would tend to bend rather than break and would be easier to repair.

  3. I was doing a little more looking this morning and it looks like maybe the 505's were discontinued last year? Summit still has a listing for them though. Did the 515s maybe replace the 505s?

  4. Well, I called Summit Racing today, since they had all three wheels listed on their website and this is what they had to say. The 405's are a custom made 2 piece wheel - American Racing can make them any size and with any backspacing - I'm sure that is why they are the most expensive. The 505's are a two piece wheel - they are offered with a lot of options as far as backspacing goes - they are in the middle as far as pricing. And lastly, the 515's are a one piece wheel with very limited sizes and backspacing - but are the cheapest of the three. I was told that all 3 are nearly identical and that you could run any combination of the three without anyone being able to tell the difference without looking at the backs of the wheels, on the 405 and 505 wheels you would see the welds. Hope this helps someone else looking into purchasing these wheels.
