cheatercarl is surely the dreamiest of them all - thanks for spreading the word man - I will float up some cool posters to ya and keep on spreading the word baby - only with ya'll can this thing be a success.

    Anyone else need promo material?

I am making a run to the post office this Wed.

here is the mass email I just sent out to some of ya............

If you can copy and paste to people you know we would appreciate it.

We have run out of money for major advertising but still going to be able to do the word of mouth / flyer / posters / postcards.

But before you know it.....the time will be here and we will all be getting out on the dirt track.

Here is the email that I have been putting out:

So the Vintage Torque Fest is only a few short weeks away.

I really hope you can help us out in any way. Even if you don't plan on coming, I hope that you
can spread the word and possibly email some people that you may know that WOULD come?

Or - if you can hang up promo material in your area I would be happy to send it out.
If you know of any media contacts please let us know as well.

Obviously this show needs to be a success to be able to continue. I hear my friends complain
about the lack of attention that the mid west gets in the national magazines (you know what I am talking
about) and if we can't make an event like this a good one..........well we will deserve the
obvious lack of coverage that we seem to always get.
So I hope that you can take a minute and email some guys you may know that would want to come out.

Or even better - if you are planning on heading to the show.....if you can volunteer a couple of
hours of your time - we need about 80 volunteers! We only have about 25 right now.

    Link to volunteer is here:
    http://vintagetorquefest.wufoo.com/forms/vintage-torque-fest/

    Other info is here:
    www.vintagetorquefest.com
Let me know if I can help out in any way.

We have Texas, Detroit, MN, IA, IN, MO, IL, Minneapolis, WI, Omaha Nebraska all represented.......now we
    need YOU to show up!

Remember that the cruise that will take place on Friday will be filmed by Dennis Gage and the My Classic
Car crew and he will be there all day long on Saturday getting footage for an episode that will be featured
in the fall of 2010. If you want to take part in the cruise (open to ALL cars) be there no later than 4:45 pm.

The show is going to be a great way to start off the 2010 season and with your help I know it can be a success.

    Thanks
    John Wells

Just got word that 2 of the ORIGINAL members of the Slo Pokes from Dubuque Iowa will be there with their cars!

I really hope that we (as the younger generation) can honor these ORIGINAL hot rodders with some well wishes.

I am going to put them INSIDE the ballroom so that we can see them rain or shine.

I am really excited to meet these guys and I have been told they will bring some vintage pix of them drag racing these same cars as well from back in the late 50s

I honestly dont know how many of these original club members are still in the area - or even still alive.....but to know that these guys were the inspiration for what many of us are doing now - to me that is pretty cool.

Hey John I hope you got the guy with the green 32 5W coupe (Original Slo Pokes member). I can't remember his name right now but he still owns his original hot rod. It is a very kool old hot rod. I talked to him last year and he told me some good stories about that car and how he bought.

stanlow - and rocky - thanks to both of ya for volunteering

    we really appreciate it

I think with the efforts of all these people that wanna see something cool happen in Iowa - this will be a great FUN event.

Lets try to keep that 3 letter word in the forefront of this whole event.

FUN is what we are after.........
lets all try our best to have a great time and then in 2011 we can get some more cool cats that wanna participate in the same kinda fun we had in 2010

    right?

    right on right on

Dont hesitate to volunteer - we are about 1/2 way to the goal.

Remember that VOLUNTEERS and PRE REGISTERS are the ones that get to go on the track FIRST

if you are car # 319 that shows up at 11:00 am............

you may not get a chance to hit the dirt track................

    ok?

There is a full kitchen on site..............I honestly dont know if the Speedway "gets" what we are doing............or how many people may show up. I have tried to relay to him the possible amount of people that will be there........and he keeps on saying that it is really hard to get people outta their easy chairs. I told him the people that are going to come to our show are willing to drive from New York to Texas for a weekend show like Lonestar. It is a different mentality, but still dont know if he understands completely. I just hope he doesnt run out of PBR.

There will be MUCH complaining if that happens!

There is a McDonalds about 4 minutes down the road.

Perhaps bringin a cooler with ya in the car is a good idea.

I honestly just dont know what the food situation is since the agreement with the speedway was - THEY get the camping, swap, food, liquor sales.

+ I had to pay them to rent the ballroom and the track.

I have been emailed about 2-3 times a week for the past month with people wanting to set up selling their food items - but I have told them they have to contact the Speedway - so if they have allowed other food vendors on site - I have not heard about it.

How is that for a clueless answer countrysedanman?

  16. Not to bad John! I bet there are so many little things like the food situation people take for granted, but in reality are a pain in the ass! My wife and I toured around some of the area towns this weekend and handed out some fliers. Seemed to get pretty good reception so I was happy. I am still trying to pin down a couple more volunteers as well trying to raise a little extra money for Hannah. See ya soon

We will be doing the volunteer assignments early next week. We still need 40 volunteers!

The response for the show has been amazing - and in order for this thing to run smooth.....we need people to help out.

So I hope to get some more people on board to help out.

The shifts are just 2 hours and will be getting free shirt and free vehicle entry for your time.

Yes - there are plenty of camp sites available......however if you need an electric spot - you are gonna have to call the Speedway - I think there were only a few of those left.

  24. All I need is room to put up my tent and I will be happy. I almost had a really pretty red headed copilot for the show but she can't make it that weekend. Looks like I'm driving out by myself.

Panic is about to set in.............REALLY need more volunteers. I definitely dont want to expect the volunteers that have already committed to do more than a 2 hour shift.

    PLEASE sign up.

Only 2 weeks left til the show.

    http://vintagetorquefest.wufoo.com/forms/vintage-torque-fest/

the bare bone crew is 90 people...........we only have 50 signed up.

I will be posting the different positions of where volunteers are needed on Monday on the site.

    THANKS

  28. Shoot, I didn't realize that I needed to sign up for a camping space. John, will I have a space if I just show up or do I need to call the speedway?

Speedway is in charge of the camping so you should most likely reserve just to be sure..........camping spots are big enough for RV's. So if a couple of cars wanna go in a spot that is the same size as an RV - then just split the camping.

    COOL?

also - there ARE showers on site.

In fact - I think there are some on both ends of the speedway - not 100% on that one - but there are 2 sets of showers.

The response today at the Cedar Rapids swap meet was really amazing. I hope that 1/2 the people that say they are headed out........will actually show up.
