It may seem that we are wanting too many volunteers. But when you look at the aerial photo of the Farley Speedway, you will see just how spread out things are.
So in order to avoid more than 2 hours per shift per volunteer we will need about 90 volunteers. Perhaps more.....

Point A is the single most important point for volunteers. Funnel Crew Point A is going to have the responsibility of determining what cars are going to go where.
There will be inspection points at other places in the Speedway to insure non qualifying cars do not get in. Point A will send cars to spectator parking (C), VIP parking (B), Traditional round up parking (D), and participant inspection point (G). There will be volunteers waving flags of different colors to let the different vehicles know where to go. The Funnel Crew will tell the approaching cars to follow the Green, Red, Black, or White flags.
    Red Flags = Spectator Parking
Black Flags = Traditional Round Up
White Flags = Normal Vintage Torque Fest Participants (infield and back corner of Speedway)
    Green Flags = VIP Parking

Point B - VIP Parking -GREEN FLAGS.... this is where the muscle cars, restored classics (remember that restored to perfection cars are not what we are letting into Torque Fest),
and new sports cars like Camaros, Challengers, street rods, and Fieros.

Point C - RED FLAGS!!! Specatator/Motorcyle VIP Parking needs to park as close to the grandstands as possible and leave room for possible expansion of VIP parking. The motorcycles can NOT park on the grass. Motorcycles will need to be on solid ground and as a result needs to be on the gravel.

Point D - Traditional Round Up Section - BLACK FLAG.....this will be where the nice hot rods/customs are parking as space permits. This point will also be responsible for taking $$$ for entry. This volunteer will have to be able get name and address/signature of driver and give them the name placard for the vehicle owners.

Point E - The BLACK FLAGGER! This person will be responsible for parking the nice traditional hot rods. This will be an interesting piece of parking prowess due to the odd shape of this area. A PATHWAY must me included so that cars have enough room to enter/exit.

Point F - This will be a 2 person team to determine who gets in to the DicE motorcycle section of the show. This team will also be collecting money ($10 entry fee) as well as giving the riders the entry forms/name placards and getting the name address/signature of participants.

Point G - Here is the key to the show! Without the inspectors here determining what gets in and what does not, this show will be just like any other car show. At this point there will be a team of volunteers to inspect the cars, take entry $$$, get the name address/signature of participants and give the Pre Registered cars their name placards to help them get in fast. In the morning (about 5:30 am) there will be 3 lines at this point - 1 for swap meet participants, 1 for Torque Fest participants, and the other line is for Pre Registers. After the swap meet line subsides there will just be 2 lines. 1 for Torque Fest participants and the other for those Torque Fest participants that Pre Registered. After leaving this point, the drivers will be directed to follow the WHITE flags for parking out on the
track infield and in the back corner of the track.

Point H - This is where ANYONE that will be heading out on the track to make laps will be staging. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO MAKE LAPS WITHOUT GETTING THE INSURANCE WAIVER SIGNED. This is a totally different form that will be signed right before the drivers are allowed to make their laps on the track. Drivers will come back to this point to exit/get their Driver Patch. If the driver wishes to go back in the back corner or infield to park - then they can do so....but will need
to come to Point H after their laps to get the patch. Those that do not follow the driver rules will not receive the patch and may be asked to leave the show.
In order for this event to be a long term event for years to come we have to play by certain rules that have been set up by the insurance company.

Point I - The parking area here needs to be set up so that the cars are able to get in and out of the infield and the back corner. The first volunteers that start parking cars in this area will have a VERY important job since the way the cars are FIRST parked will determine the rest of the day. These flags will be white.

In addition we will need Wrist Band inspectors at the back door of the Ballroom (the place where the bands, vendors, show cars etc are), spectator entry $$ collectors, and help with the merchandise booth selling the shirts, posters, stickers.

  3. If we are camping do we still have to park in the spectator lot or do we get to park at the camp site ?

there ya see it - the Max Grundy art for the Vintage Torque fest.....
I thought it was pretty amazing. Max is a really talented guy and is able to come up with some really unique stuff from that grey matter up there in that pretty little skull of his. Hope ya'll like it.......I have already been told that this design is "not normal" or "not traditional" and "too different"

Well.............sorry if ya dont like it. I think overall the response will be positive to his design. We will only be getting 3-400 shirts made up so be sure to arrive early if you are needing a shirt.

Also - there WILL be a limited edition of 100 posters that will be just like the really nice high end prints/giclees of this image available for sale at the show. Max typically sells these prints for $40 but we have convinced him to go much cheaper than that. These will not be the normal 11 x 17 posters - these are going to be big and worthy of framing. Be sure to get Max to sign the poster! We probably wont sell out of these at the show, but ya never know. We will have stickers of this image available as well.

On a downer note - received word that Mike Lange is not gonna be able to bring the board track racers in 2010 - he was REALLY upset that he could not make it down - seems he had another obligation that he forgot about when he initially said he would come down for the show on May 1.
SO - he says he has already put Vintage Torque Fest on the calender for 2011 and that we will be able to see him out there tearin it up Apr 30 of next year. I am sure we will see him at the Davenport races over Labor Day!!! If you have never been there - ya gotta check it out.

And........I have confirmed some really positive news about the artist for 2011 - will announce it at the show.

As for all the people that have wanted to get the killer images/posters of Keven Carter...........we have a limited set of 100 prints SIGNED and they come in a really nice portfolio. Ya'll should purchase a set so Kev can get gas money to get back home to Detroit!
He will be there selling his other merch as well.

Thanks to all that have pre registered - we have close to 120 pre reg!

I am not sure how many that will wind up being the day of the show......but I am overwhlemed by the well wishes and the positive attitudes of all the people that I have been talking to at the shows and the emails. I know that this can be a really fun day for everyone - and I urge ya'll to help out with the show - even if you are not an official volunteer - if you see something happening at the show that looks like it needs to be fixed. Do it.

I know there may be some technical difficulties with some aspects of the show but with everyones positive vibes I think we will get through this thing together.

    AND........
one last piece of good news.

Due to the really great response for the CRUISE on FRIDAY NIGHT......we have secured THE MAGNETOS! They will be opening for the Afterdarks. So we will have the Magnetos play about 830 for a 45-60 minute set.....then the Afterdarks will come out and kick us all in the ass with their high energy set!

So be sure to check out the FREE show on Friday night as well. Seems all the hot rod community is showing up Friday between noon and 3pm so hope to seeya there on Friday or Saturday.

you can see the press that we are getting in the freebie magazine in Dubuque - not sure how many locals read it - but I thought it was a pretty good article - there were some things that were wrong in there - but overall pretty decent write up!
here is the link to the magaine pdf files so you can see it on line.

Only 8 days to go - I hope ya'll keep on spreading the word about the show. I dont ahve a problem with people making a bit of money on the side to pay gas money etc.

We can NOT have tables set up next to cars though.

I know some people may not "get" this.
Pinstripers, charity raffles, auctions CAN put stuff on their cars or in the back of their trucks.
We are not gonna have the room for people to just randomly start putting out tables and crap around their cars.

Next year we will expand the vendor area and those that sign up early will most likely be able to get a spot to sell their wares.

If you see anyone with Los Punk Rods or Cheaters stuff on - and they request you to do something...........
please follow their directions - they have been doing shows for 10 years for each club and they know what is going on.

They have contributed to this show in many ways and are gonna help this show for years to come I hope.

    Questions?

Hey fellas, If anyone is comming from the great NE Iowa area, could you do me a favor?
I've got 2 transmissions waiting for me in Sibley IA. If you or your buddies could find away
to bring them to the show.... That would be great. They are small 3 spd OD from Stude's and Jeeps. They are dirty and will probbily be greasy aswell.
PM asap if you can do it so I can get the MO in the mail so they are paid for when you pick them up.

    Thanks Guys and Gals

Jeff, I will gladly buy you a beer or 2 or 3 at the show.

Hey John - I totally understand you guys cant come up.....but know that we really do want you there next year - and would LOVE to see the El Tiki there!!!

It is possible I may be able to come down for the show in June since you guys are not conflicting with the Back to the 50s!

I will be sending down the new DVD to ya'll in a few weeks when they get here from the manufacturuer - Naomi really did great!

    OK

I know we have some other cars registered from IN so we will be seeing SOME of the cars from the hoosier state.

OK - so due to the car count we are gonna be able to TURN THE LIGHTS ON AT THE SPEEDWAY!!!

Looks this is gonna be a FULL day and night on Saturday!

I wanna thank everyone in advance for all the good word of mouth and helping tell your friends and neighbors.

I know that with good cooperation with the hot rod community we will make this an annual event that will be a destination point for hot rodders all over the country.

So I hope you all will do your best to help out the show - the best thing you can do is spread some good words after the show. If there are things that go wrong - dont focus on the kinks that may come up - instead focus on the good times that you had at the show.

If you dont have a good time - email me privately and tell me what was up.

I would much rather have people tell me what they did not like so it can be corrected in the future.

Man, i'm very excited for this show. I've had a flyer hainging in my garage since december! I live about 15 miles from the track, so i'll probably be there all weekend!~

If anyone has a need for a 216 chevy six with 3sp trannys, i have 2 of them.
one is out of a 47 car, i was told its not a stock motor, it may even be a 235, but it runs and everything works. I don't know squat about these motors, so don't quote me. but it runs.
The other one is in my 52 chevy car, Has a cracked head from not having coolant in the winter. such a small spot i'm sure it could be brazed. Has good compression, starter works, I havent spent any time on it to try to make it run.
I don't really care, i'll take $100 a piece, i just want them gone. So if anyone is going and wants these, PM me ASAP, especially if you want the one that is still in the 52.

Now, I understand this is not a classifieds section, but it's more of a shoutout to whoever is coming to this area and may be interested in this type of motor, beings they are old as the hills, and i have no use for them except for maybe using them for a new boat anchor, and they are a little too heavy for me to toss over the side of the boat. So come get em. Thanks.
