My old man picked up a 62 Chrysler 300 hard top yesterday with the push ****on trans. The guy he bought it from said it ran awhile ago but not anymore. Got to messing with it and it will start of the shifter is in drive only. Where exactly is the neutral safety on a push ****on. Hopefully not internal like someone told me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

TF neutral start switch is on the driver's side of the trans, just above the pan rail,

I'd check the plug on the neutral start switch for positive engagement- other than that- the push****on actuators may need adjustment- i ***ume the rooster comb that trips the switch is similar to non-push****on trans- you can pull the pan and check for any wear on it-. You can probably jump the contacts for testing purposes. Aside from the push****on gadgetry, a Torqueflite is about as complicated as a brick and twice as reliable-rick.

That neutral switch is a single wire and is prone to breaking at the terminal. There are two cables on that set up, one goes to the parking lock the other to the valve body. These transmissions were made 62-65 and though there were a few variations on a few parts for the later floor shifted models are pretty straight forward. Sounds like the cable to the valve body needs adjustment cause if the n/s switch was bad it wouldn't start in any gear. Best way to adjust is with the trans pan off which requires dumping the fluid. Do yourself a favor and get a new filter and gasket before you do it and make sure you get the right filter, should have 3 holes because of the rear pumps used in the push****ons.
