I found out yesterday that Speedway bought out Total Performance and they're closing down thier locations. They have been down the street from me as long as I can remember and though I am not a huge T bucket fan it's still kind of sad. Most of the guys there are good dudes and I guess unemployed now.

  4. Yep, I called to order some windshield posts yesterday and the guy told me over the phone that NJ location is closing but they will have another location in cali where they may be opening. And another one bites the dust......

A customer from that area told me the same thing yesterday. He said Micky was going to Florida!

Mickey already is in Florida, is that staying open? The shop in Bunnell?

I purchased one of their Pro Street rear subframe kits for my '31 Tudor back in the early 90's. Good quality and fit for a universal type kit. For $400 more, got the 9-inch rear and backing plates plated. Just priced out the same the other day and it was $1500. Gave Total Performance $1640 for the whole kit back then!! How things have changed!!

I think Mickey sold the place to Fast last year and he opened a shop in Florida.

Have to admit, after reading the posts about Speedway's chinamen connections I sure think less of old speedy Bill. Hope they don't ruin Total too badly, they have been nice to deal with over the years.

He might not have it made there, but sells a lot of stuff from there.

    Sorry to ear the news.:(
Total Performance employees are awesome and go way above and beyond "normal" customer service. I was a couple of miles from their main shop in CT in a NAPA parking lot with Big Olds and he wouldn't start. Mickey sent one of his guys over who determined it was my starter. I went inside NAPA, purchased a new one, and Mickey's guy installed it and wouldn't take a dime for his trouble.

It is because Mickey is such a great guy that I'm really interested in hearing more about this. Not to bring up bad memories, but when I had my little snafu it was in one of his buckets and he was one of the first people to call and make sure I was ok. Even though the cause had nothing to do with his bucket he was (and still very much is) concerned how I was.

My hope is that he sold the production end of the business and will continue to maintain his shop in Bunnell building cars and work the TP booth at shows.

Regardless of what happened or happens in the future I wish nothing but the best for Mickey and the future of TP.

It's called King T now. Talked to thier order line this morning. The 800 number goes striaght to Florida. He told me the CT shop was closed and everything goes through Florida. He answed the phone King T / Total Performance. I had place an order on Monday and he had it there so they are at least keeping up with sales.

I've used a couple of their parts. Great service. Wish I could buy their hubs from their spindle mounts though. 16x3's look funny. But the 18x2.15's that are on Maximum Evil are awesome. If I could only buy their hubs we'd be making Victory 18x2.15's for anyone that wanted them.

Micky is a pioneer in the industry. In fact, he kinda pioneered the hot rod AS an industry. Great guy but don't ask him for an opinion 'cause he'll tell you exactly what he thinks - like it or not ;-0

Some might disagree, but I think that King T deal makes a neat, cheap little rod. That's what early rods were, right? Rizzo and Cindy's Street Rodder project makes it look fairly easy.

Sorry about the crew guys though - the ****'s spreading fast.

Seems to me; the last one left is in charge of the lights...it's a cryin' shame!!

  26. The negativity towards business on the board lately amazes me. Buncha freeakin so******ts.

Mickey built a good business, worked it until he was ready to retire, then sold it to a willing buyer. DUH! That is kinda the goal when someone is growing their enterprise, sell it or p*** it on to family. Nobody starts a business saying "gee I hope I go broke or have to close this down when I retire"

Speedy Bill saw the positive value in it or he would not have spent the money.

We built one of these and was impressed with the overall quality. Its a shame to see a good group as this break up.

    My favorite TP Bucket!! :)

I talked to Brian yestarday and found out. It was a sad conversation, but I think he'll move on. He's a hot rodder and not a quitter. I had talked to Mickey the day after New Years (freaked me out that he answered) and he gave me some good advice on my rebuild. I didn't get the impression that Total as a company had been sold. The Conn. location will be gone, but I think they are just moving everything to the new and bigger location in Florida. In todays world, perhaps having two locations was too much.

Regardless, I wish Mickey and the gang the best. I'll be getting parts from them for my rebuild and will always support them.

  30. that ****s.still have the center fold outa AR with one of the daughters, ok car but damn nice "lady Luck"....wish the best for the guys workin there,If he's still open in Florida I will do what I can to support him when buyin for the Pie Wagon
