Projects Totally illegal test drive. 39 Ford.

I needed to test the converter before all the sheetmetal goes on, so what better way to do it than stick a battery in the floorboard, wire up the importiant **** and make a terror ride around the block.

The little car purred like a kitten and the converter is just fine.


Nuther.


Dig the deluxe gauge package.


Now, she goes back in the garage for a winters worth of body, paint and final ***embly.

on my first illegal test drive, i hit 80mph

 

I love this stuff, late at nite, quiet street in a quiet neighbourhood, apple boxes for seats, and especially when the guy sittin' beside ya is a traffic cop acting like an eighteen year old kid. And he's the one yellin faster! faster!

 

just because it was illegal, does not mean it was wrong

LOL, I just noticed that as well. He would of gotten away with it if caught. "officer it's my birthday and the car is Pontiac powered can you just slap my hand?"

Oh yeah, that first ride. You know that you shouldn't do it but you also know that you want to do it and you are going to do it. Doing things like that helps keep us all young. Congrats on a really good start. Remember that ride when you run into something unexpected, it'll help you get through it with a smile on your face.

 

I'd say that Big Indian made it a fun first ride. I guess you laid some black marks to remember this by? Right? Looking good, keep us posted on progress pics.

way cool--have done it a few times with these 40's just like that--sittin on a milk crate--got caught once--cop thought it was nice but GET IT HOME and off the street-didn't have mufflers yet either-just head pipes-came to see it when it was done

You screwed up. When I do that, I never finish em, like driving them too much and spend more time justifying test drives than actually working on them..

 

One hell of a radiator you've got there! I look forward to pix when the car is all together. Mine is in a similar state now, blown apart for bodywork and paint. I wasn't daring enough to take it out in the street first, though. Just lit 'em up good in the driveway! Lookin' good!

I've done that a few times and they are the best memories I have of each car.
The thrill of doing something illegal but harmless.
The thrill of the first drive.

It doesn't get any better..... Unless you break down !!!!

Ive made friends with most of the local cops but just about everytime I go for my test drive someone calls the police, I will be legal on the next run down the street but I may not put the tag on till I get back to the house just to make my a-hole neighbor look the fool when the police show up to tell me I need it registered and I can say it is .

 

Nice looking coupe, I just made my T's first illegal test drive on tuesday. I just got my drive shaft from the machinest all excited and not thinking I put the new u-joints in and compleatly forgot about the rad. support that goes from the cowl. I just putted around the block maybe going 25mph just to make sure everything is working good, went around a corner and decided to let into it a little maybe got to 40mph and pop, radiator right into the fan, antifreeze all in my mouth and eyes, no windshield yet. Nothing too bad, just a junkyard radiator and a flex fan that I didnt really think went with my car any way.

 

Wow, she's bear bones.

 

Always fun until.......... this...!

Finished the car at 3a.m.... stopped by the Police at 3:02 a.m.... Speeding... no registration... open exhaust... and a Warning to get it off the road immediately!

We complied...
