The decisions been made! I decided to use a trans after spending some money on my wifes Dragster and not having much to spend on the Twin and it came together real well. I have many Ford 3 speeds and one is a Van trans with an extremely short tailshaft so I machined the Brg Retainer down to the GM bellhousing...............
Happened to have a piece of Bronze material and made a pilot bushing that fits the larger opening of the 350 crank to have the bushing close enough for the Ford input to reach........

And "WALA" Ford 3 speed to Chevy bellhousing in an afternoon.
Now I have to find another T150 Trans top as I recently sold the last one I had, a rear yoke for the trans which I'll convert to a slip yoke and I can start the frame fab.

Nicely done Rocky...if you have a side shifter case you can just make your own top cover.:D

HaHa, I should of been clearer 'bout the "top", I want to have shifter in the top like our HAMB. The poor old HA/GR is just sitting in the corner "Shakin", worrying about it's fate and what parts I may need off of it. I keep tlling it don't worry:D

  5. The way you're goin the ol HA/GR should be shakkin in her boots ....I'll ask around for a top for ya........

The Twin will only run Eagle Field (unless invited somewhere) and I know the inspectors;) My original plan of 2 3rd members and seperate bellhousings would of addressed the NHRA tech but with our Eagle Field events I have a place to play.

    Ok....... I'm getting it now!
It's just hard for me to conceptualize enough people and interest to actually have your own place to race your own home made cars.

How dangerous is earthquakes and forest fires out there? For a little bit, I'd do just like Jed and granny and I could just move there !

BTW, after studying enlarged pics of that wire wheeled front driven car, it looks like it's powered by a 6 from a plymouth or dodge.
Fooled me! I was so excited at first, I thought it actually had an aircraft engine!

4 months away............ wonder how till they knew I was gone.

HaHaHa, You could sneak in and get home before any major earthquakes, it's the goverment that's killimg us:D The car I thinkk your referring too is our HAMB Dragster with a 170 Ford and what looks "Red Baron" model kit hedders. Majority of our participants don't race on a regular basis, their just having a good time with Hot Rods and Old Race cars that don't get out much. Tom what do you know about your Avatar? Hi Toymaker..Re: Post of 1-17-11. To prevent future expense, if you purchase a candlestick, please get one with a 1 3/8" spline on the clutch end. Should the "ceramic" disc prove to be inadaquate, you will be able to go to standard twin disc sintered iron, and sintered bronze clutch surfaces, that will last for years, when you lock it up. If not, hopefully, you will be able to put stiff enough springs in the ceramic clutch hat,to handle the double torque. PLEASE DO NOT use a cast iron pressure ring! I am thinking reliability AND safety. Tony Lloyd

Thanks Tony for the insight, the clutch area is a "GRENADE" in disguise and will have SFI spec parts and steel scattersields covering them.

To Tom S, there is more than enough people, in fact Rocky has started a show that only gets bigger each year. Goes to show ya that there are plenty of us ol idiots who still think we are teenagers to make it happen each year. It is a notion to a by gone era when you run what you brung and had a ball doing it, anyway he has got me hooked.........................Carl

The finer points and parts to put all the big pieces together are going to be the death of me:D After deciding to run the trans I went to Turners Auto Wrecking and found a slip yoke to replace the fixed yoke on the trans, with the trans and the rear end solid, the yoke being within 6" of the trans bearing I think it will be fine. With that out of the way I picked up some "Freeze Plug" for the shifter and speedo holes and had to get a seal for the combo which on all other fixed tail housings is the same EXCEPT the one I'm using........no problem for KAMAN Brg here in Fresno.
With all of that out of the way I put her all together and ended up with a pretty short combo, now I'm waiting on a Top Loader T150 shifter for it and it will be done!

Next I'll finish the Bellhousing, finish the engine plate and put the whole thing on the jig. Rocky

  20. Way too cool Roc, no one I know has the shifter.......humm betcha could fab something that would work as you would only need one arm for 2-3 and a short stub for rev slider shouldn't be too hard to mfg.....

Mike, I have one coming that I found on ebay. What I do (this is the second one) is I contact a seller that is trying to sell the whole T150 trans out of a jeep (early Broncos also had them) and make them an offer of $75 + shipping for the top only, had success twice;)

I'm sorry Toymaker, I did not catch that sentence when I posted last.
That body was a Kellison from a car that used to run modified sports or altered, and we bought it from a guy named Jimmy Nix from here in middle Tn. It was mounted on an early vette type frame when we got it, and there where cut out shark teeth for a grille.
We removed it, modified it and mounted it on our altered frame with a stroked FE Ford.
All of us were young, and did not know what we were doing, and we were plagued with cracked fiberglass like windshield pillars, so the windshield kept blowing out at speed.
With no time to put it back in after a time trial one night at Union Hill in Nashville, we left it out.
    Mistake: the roof blew off.
We went back to the T body the next week.
I'd give more pics, but they are stuck in the old album they are in, and I'm afraid they will tear.

  27. I am thinking an investment in an aftermarket high strength yoke might be in order - I'd hate to think of the stock passenger car yoke grenading right by your nuts

I know the idea is that this thing will just smoke the tires down the track and not really strain the driveline, but shit happens :(

I apprciate the concern about the u-joint but I'm confident it (solid u-joint) will be OK and it will have a shield over it. I mocked up the drive assembly for a look and now have to blow it all apart, make an alignment tool for the engine to rearend alignment then hopefully we'll be on to building a roller!
