I had the dizzy's locked out ad set at 20*BTDC, when I fire the engines I checked the REV engine (the other eng came out of a car running and was set at 20*) and it was at 10* BTDC. When I bumped it to 20* I couldn't start the beast with the starter I have so I put it back and thats why I think it sounds a little lazy. StripT told me when they did Demo Derby they used 24V on a 12V starter and it would Damn Near start anything and that's what I'm doing next:D
I'm with ya Rich, the more I thought about it I've decided to run 2 cans.

Yep, go ahead, just disquise (?SP) my face:D

Yep Tom, I've been catching up on some rest and that's why I'm a little behind on posting;)
Thanks for all the encouragement, the next steps are to get the exhaust done, a sacrificial starter to slam 24V, round up another 3x2 intake, 3 more Strombergs & kits from Uncle Max, and then b able to really chase it around the floor:D after I fab a throttle and put the cans on naturally!

I'm working on the next step of aquiring the remaining Carbs, Intake and Hedder pieces I need to continue. I also made a sizeable investment in the October Eagle Field DVD's, YEP that's right BABY they are in :D and are awesome! Don't worry, after the Holidays I'm hitting the ground RUNNIN'!

You may have hashed this out already, as I am only about page 9, but the vibration I think they are referring to on the firing order issue has to do with harmonics, each engine will generate harmonics even if balanced, but if those work against each other, there in lies the failures, I think the key will be to find the sweet spot where they don't affect one another. So I would say it will be a trial and error sort of thing, but vibrations would show up sooner than damage in this case, so if there are serious vibration issues, maybe a slight alteration in the timing of each engines firing order(changing the mesh of the flywheels by a few teeth) might correct or worsen that, with repeated adjustments to find nirvana so to speak.

Sounds like you got that part figured out, as long as they act the same way in the frame rails! Awesome!

Royal turned me on to these and told me to have my way with them and now I'm thinking of building 2 complete log manifolds:eek: I've been looking at manifolds and carbs and by the time I bought everything I'm getting close to injectors:rolleyes: I'll sleep on it:D

Injection would be nice but I'm trying to keep the cost down, I hope to have not much more in the car than 2 Inj units would cost:D
That is awesome Carl, I picked up a 3" holesaw today to fit the runners to the log.

Is that just a regular wood chop Saw? if so what kind of blade is that

  25. Metal cutting blade 7 1/2 in on a 10 in chop saw HF for 12 bucks worth a try to me, as I have been trying to find a 10 for under 80 bucks with no luck, this is good for small stuff...................

  26. Well the three (or 6) deuces would look nice but what about using a wedge like a marine wedge with your present carbs? I dont know what your angle is but they are normally 15 degrees and designed to work back to front, With a little creativity (and we know you have lots) they could just be installed to level the carbs side to side or you could make new ones out of styro foam, pop down to the local foundy and ask him to pack them in sand a pour them. Cost would be way less and results instant. In fact I made one for my 318 poly dragter engine but it is level. On my senior dragster when I converted to the single four I made a wedge adapter from a four holer. I had to make it a wedge because I run my six a bit more upright then normal . Anyway you are probably well on your way with the 3X2 log manifolds but I just throw that in since you did mention carb $$$$$$/
Wonderful build BTW, I am enjoying it.

Nice. I like the log intake idea. You will be able to angle it any way you need. Genius.

Just a little follow up with more pictures of this car taken back in the late 50's at Bakersfield, note the rear ends. I really like the steering, the "radiators" and the cardboard air cleaners. (These photos are from Ken Crawford of the Crawford/Stroner roadster.)

Beautiful. Not so much radiators as Thermos cans of water!!
