I have fitted a 350 TPI from an 88 Corvette into my 40 Ford Coupe. The placement of the A/C compressor and the alternator are very wide and will make it necessary to hack up the inner fenders to fit. I see that some guys are placing the A/C and alternator closer together to get around this problem. Can anyone tell me what I need to get hold of to shift the A/C and alternator inwards, without going too much forward as this will give me issues with radiator clearance. Can someone tell me what bits and off what models I need, this will be a great help. I will have to buy this from the US and ship to Australia as we never had Chevrolets sold here, so I would like to know what I need. I will not be using the smog pump or power steering pump, only A/C, Crankshaft, short water pump, alternator and serpentine adjuster are necessary. Thx in advance, Max.
You might look at the accessory brackets off of a full size chevy pickup. I know the Corvette stuff makes for a tighter and neater fit closer to the motor, but the '41 Ford that was my first car had plenty of room up front. Of course, we had a Nova clip under it, but everything fit under the hood and within the fenders. I also had a quadrajet on top of a single quad tunnel ram - all under the hood!
max I have a tpi in my olds.. I found some bits that allowed me to make it work.. BUT.. the alan grove brackets would have been easier and looked nicer. jeff
Make it look like it grew there, use Grove brackets or make your own, but NEVER cut the inner fenders.
check out the stock brackets off a 1990 4.3 astrovan or even a mid to late 80s camaro with a 5.7 small block
