where did you look? You can get a brookville shell all day long for $250
If you look you will see all kinds of grill shells for $100 or less... and if you think that 32 shells are expensive try finding a nice '34 shell....

I'm guessing some people are either lazy or have no taste, or both... :D

  2. Yeah Brian, but you took the effort to make a hood with matching beltlines. Much different and shows effort and taste than just slapping one on.

I like tractor grills if they are fit to the car. Not some big ugly *** catapiller grill on the front of a car because the guy just had to build a rat rod.

  4. Wow, wonder what POS you are referring to?;):D

  5. Anybody else here also think tractors look like hot rods? "Big tires in back, small tires in front"... oooooooyea!

As with any other part, it's all about the way it's used.

    This is one used right:

I'll jump into the "hot water" although my grill is not a tractor, it's industrial stationary engine. I found it in the attic of the garage when I moved in, I did have a 29 shell I was going to use but it was wider than my frame and didn't look right up there.

I think saying all tractor grilles **** is a rather closed minded statement, as some of the pics show, if a little thought and planning is incorporated they can be made to look good. But isn't that true for most everything about building cars? Sure, you can randomly throw a pile of parts together, and they might work together.. but that doesn't mean it's right. (a little fact that a lot of the m***es don't "get"). The cars that have stood the test of time show that great cars just don't happen, the sum of the parts has to be greater than the whole.. or something like that.

Not to put down tractor shells, some of them work well, you gotta do what you like, but I also think anything worth having is worth saving up for. Yea, you may not have the bucks for the piece you want, but try saving up for it. It may take a while, but the satisfaction is greater than just slapping something on and trying to convince yourself and others that that's what you wanted all along.

It amazes me that some people will save and search for the right body for a project, then when it gets to the detail, they just lose it. How does that happen?

I was looking at some of these pix and some of them look pretty decent (which to be honest, changed my opinion about tractor grilles). It's like everything else, if you have no sense of style and proportion it's going to look like **** you hung off the front of your car for shock value.

If you have a good eye you'll make it work although after cutting it up to make it look right, there's not much "tractor" left.

Anyhow, if you end up liking it and want to keep it you can send me that 32 shell you have lying around and I can make a flowerpot out of it or something...

This looks good the way it was fit, doesn't look like an add on. It's got form and fit. Just my .02 cents

    Bill,

It's from a Minneapolis-Moline. I'm afraid I don't have more detail. Fur Biscuit may have better information, as I'm pretty sure I swiped that picture from him originally.

    Regards,
    Dave

Some of you guys ammuse the hell out of me about what should be posted on the H.A.M.B. Just because someone likes a tractor grill on a car you beat the hell out of him. Are all of your vehicles completely stock? If so, I think you don't belong on the H.A.M.B. Rodding was started using what was available, and yes the first rod was probably referred to as a "fad". If ya don't like them, don't look at them.

Actually it's not a matter of the car or truck being modified, it's more like hey that big square grill looks like a cardboard box on the front of that car. If it looks retarded expect to get bashed for it. blah blah blah it's your car do what you want be **** it doesn't have to be totally tasteless either.

I agree that it does'nt have to be tasteless, but I see alot of things on here that I would consider tasteless. I was'nt aware this forum had "Guidelines for building the proper H.A.M.B. car". Are we at least allowed to pick our own color so we can distinguish them apart?

P.S. I am not an advocate of any trend, fad or taste but diversity is what keeps the hobby alive.

we do get a bit elitist from time to time. perhaps we should just celebrate everyone who doesnt have a red 32 ford roadster with a 350/th350 that looks like every other red 32 ford.
