I was at my local TSC store buying some bolts and I looked at the paint selection when I found some tractor enamel paint. They also have truck enamel. Seems to me someone brought this up before but this stuff is supposed to be tough as nails. I thinking about using it on my frame and ch***ie since they say it is scratch resistant. They have a "non-gloss" black which would work just fine unless I went with Ford Blue or John Deere Green - no I think the "non-gloss black would be fine. Anyone use this stuff? at $24 a gallon it sounds to good to be true.
Sounds like the Blitz Black paint they sell at the John Deere place. It's non-gloss black and I've only heard good things about it. Dan
It depends on what kinda finish you are after. Personally I wouldn't paint my tractor with it but a lot of guys love it. It's a synthetic enamel. That's what they spray on car trailers etc. My car trailer was brand new 3 years ago. It has been outside in the weather and it is all flat and starting to rust. I know it's cheap but if you plan on keeping the car and ever repainting it.....I would p***. But that's just me.
If it's anything like "Farmall" red, it's a real HARD paint. I did an M for a friends dad, and it looked sweet, until harvest came and he started to use it. If a branch hit it in the corners, it shattered like gl***. I used the right hardener, reducer, everything. Prepped it with a good wet sand, did it right. Just wouldn't stick worth a darn. But some folks get better results... maybe if ya brush it on? Then again, it was only $30 a gallon, for everything! Jay
the red primer is KILLER.......oh its 7 bucks a qt-thin with 20%Laquer thinner....[yeah I know its oil base]....that way it sprays well and dries to a DAMNED TOUGH film.Especially for an "outside storage" car it works phenomenolly[is that a word?]
I used the low gloss black on my 49. The only good thing is its cheap . Took forever to dry (no hardener). looked good right after I sprayed it,then it started to blush. Still looks good though and has a nice sheen
I think it is great for ch***is stuff but I wouldn't paint it the body. The sheen just won't hold up to the sun. I also would use Penatrol mixed with it. It is a real good rust inhibitor and makes that thick **** flow. In fact if you use the penatrol you'll think that you screwed up because it flows like water and will run and drip off but in the end it will look real nice. We've done everything from trailers to mowers to gates this way and works great.
I hadda buddy spray my Porsche in the J.D. blitz black version of this enamel. He shoulda strained the rocks out of the paint before spraying it and a little better scuffing would have resulted in better adhesion but he did it really cheap. I guess ya get what you pay for. Has held up well to UV so far. No fade since it was done but it has yet to go through a full summer.
