I have an offer to trade a 59 Bel-Air for my 1960 Biscayne. There are pros and cons though as there are with any trade. I have a lot more invested in the Biscayne. I have a nice paint job shaved handles rebuilt motor rebuilt trans lake pipes and other performance parts the only thing that needs to be done on the car is the interior which is not bad to start. the Bel-Air on the other hand is all original rust and all. the driver side floor pan is rusted out and the trunk is rusted out. he has the metal for the job and will get it done but also every thing is original paint is an oxidized white and there is some surface rust on the body other than that is is a straight body. the motor has been maintained and is running strong but not rebuilt. both cars are four door and have 235s and are both 3 on the tree. the pros to his car is all the trim is there and it's 59 Bel-Air. I have always had a thing for those I have always loved the 60's too anyway...I am having a hard time making a rational decision. I tend to make bad decisions on cars. so if some of you could maybe give me some advise?
if you really want the bel air, you could trade but the other guy should give you some cash too. an even trade doesnt seem fair in this case.
I would not trade even up. If he has some money to pony up with the trade maybe. Otherwise, HELL NO! Ive made some bad trades in the past and finally woke up. Dont do it. You"ll regret it later unless he's willing to pony up some dough.
A trade only works if both swappers feel like they fucked over the other guy afterwards. I only see you getting set 10 steps back with a car that needs a bunch of rust work. Value wise there's no real difference in the two -
