we have a tradional shop here in hemet called happy joe's. barber pole outside in all. my friend joe owns it. his dad started it in the 60's i think. now he runs it. and my friend daniel cuts my hair for the last 10 years or so. they do the hot foam on the neck and a stright razor to trim it up man it feels good to get a fresh cut. billy

The first 4 of my second shop, my friend kristen and sandy took pics there. I don't have inside shots of my third shop I put downtown. Just the outside window. We are lookin at opening a clothing store here in the next few months and I'm gonna put a chair in the store. When that is done I'll post some pics. The idea is pretty cool.

  5. Growing up in Kingston PA there was Tommy Edward's Barbershop. Tommy had a sign out front "I need your head in my business" and referred to the post cut cologne as "Panther Piss." The old retired coal miners would hang out in back, smoke, drink and cuss all day. What a place !

Hawleywoods is cool, but a little far to Costa Mesa from SFV just for a haircut. Wish I knew of a good barbershop closer. Speak up if you do.

i wish there was one in the riverside, ca area to brag about.

just a bunch of hackers. i tried the old timers and the youngsters. i dont care if they offer me a free beer or have all the cool old stuff on the walls i just want a haircut to be proud of and not be all pissed off after i wash all the hair spray off to see a cow lick.

there is a barber in green valley AZ near Tucson who does a razor cut. now that guy kicks ass!! i hold up on cuts if i know i'm going down that way to see the family. you can go home shower comb it all back and don't have to put shit in your hair and it lays all cool.

About 12 years ago I used to go to what I guess you could call a traditional barbershop. It was an old guy in a little shop, one barber chair, and an old B&W TV. No hair dyes, no fancy shampoos, etc. Haircuts were $6 and the old guy didn't accept tips. His hands were shaky as all get out and he still managed to cut my hair straight.

Then he died and I had to go to a "salon" where, for $14, an overweight woman rubbed her front butt on my arm as she cut my hair crooked and I nearly pass out from all of the weird smells and listened to the middle-aged women cackle about their periods.

In Michigan, near Grand Rapids, there's the Cascade Barber shop. No cars but plenty of Tractors (it's Farmer Country). It was run by a Father/Son but now the Father is retired and the Son, Andy runs it alone. Opened in the late 1800's and really hasn't changed much. Great place, it's like going to Floyd's on Andy Griffith. Really friendly.

Yeah, feel your pain. I live in Northridge and only get down to Hawleywoods once in a while. Haven't found a good "traditonal" shop anywhere in the SFV. I hit up Angelo's Barbershop on Reseda and Nordhoff for the regular "maintenance" trims. Good thing about Angelo's is that they still know how to wield a straight razor.

I go to King's in Urbana,IL. It's in an old house painted a kind of blue. No appointments, no shampoos, no t-shirts for sale, no free beer and no TV. $11.00 haircut and you get the hot lather around the ears and neck. Wonderful!
