Here are some I scanned from my rolls and pleats and wizzz mags. My favorite is the watson style 57 ford, if someone could photoshop that look onto my 58 chevy that would be the bee's knees! How much should I plan to spend to get it painted up similar to that? Thanks Ryan
Doesn't have flames, but I like that "666" car. I really don't like the new realistic flames though, pretty ugly. I think you have to be real careful with flames as they have been done quite a bit and in the wrong hands can get pretty cheesey pretty fast.
...but forgot to say that good flames though can be awesome and some of these posted are pretty darn sweet.
They may be 'Naive' but thats how the earlier flames looked until Mr Watson applied his style and gave us what has been acknowledged as the look. There was a Copper coloured 32 5 window with green flames, very early car and super ***y (Quite famous) but I cant find a pic. Anyone know the car from my lame ****d description??
Bob McCoy had a black 40 Ford tudor back in the late 50's that he flamed. Some cat in Indiana cloned the car, I usully see it at the Nationals. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture to share. But man... those are some traditional flames!
Mr. Hoving, On a separate note... I really like your Kustoms web sight! You have an unbelievable collection of photos. I bow down...
the dragnet roadster was owned by Tom Pollard (sp?) first two pics of back then, last one is currently
The truck belongs to "Monkey" (resident crazy) and the flames were done by "Lil Toot" (resident superb artist). Extremely well done. I am priviledged to consider both of these young guys my friend. J.
Wow - I haven't seen pics of that Blue on Orange Chebby since the **** Reynolds days.....almost for got how hot that car looked. It's standing the test of time well. ~Broman
My 40 in 1954. As I recall we did a lot of white flames on primer back then. Guys who could fade multi colored tips and stripe edges weren't too plentiful then. They took on a kinda local hero status. Blended tips with shadows were the ultimate. Bob Mc Coy's really set the mark.
lol, I was bummed when he painted it... mine is kind of down that line a little bit.. I really need to get some better pics of her though...
here is a pix of the flames on my Merc, I wanted to give the illusion that the car was breaking through the flames, don't know if I accompolished that look or not.
Trad or not.. at least old style... a friend did this for me and I sure like it!! This is my dream, hope it come true...
This is my idea of traditional flames on a traditional custom done 32 years ago and is still in vogue today.
Yep, those be the most traditional... from days gone way by... done by folks who had absolutely no idea how to paint even a close representation of a flame. Quite a few of the Agajanian race cars (and an Indy winner I think) and a few early lakes racers had "beginner" flames like that. My favorite, not quite ready for prime time flames, were the ones you got on model car kit decal sheets. LOL Gary
Almost Perfect Flames! Nice proportions! Me and My buddies used to flame everything when we're young(er). Model Cars, Shoes (Wood Clogs), Mopeds, Motor Cycles, Helmets, Evinrude Outboard Engine,..you name it! The rules where: 1. Never Cross over the licks 2. Only 2 Licks - No Triple Licks (Like the bottom one on the tank) Am I an expert & Do You have to follow these rules...? ...Oh Yeah! T
When did Mr. Watson first make his style of flames? (What year?) Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
