I bet Don thought he was buying the farm on that one. He was about to have a blower sandwich.

If memory serves, Garlits lost part of a foot in a clutch explosion. Perhaps on this occasion? Talk about timing to click a shutter!

  5. Note the size of the fuel tank on Garlits' car, about 5 gallons. Contrast it with today's T/F and F/C fuel tanks with 20 gallon capacities. My, how times have changed.

Two pictures come to mind. Unfortunately I have neither one saved. The picture of the 55 or 56 Chevy after the clutch explosion, and the picture of an altered or funny car that the engine is exploding. The one where you can see just about every part in the engine.

I knew the first pic was a FE intake, with a well used fuel injection and I had a feeling I knew where the picture was taken. Bet I can make a good guess who's hand that is working over the piston. Thanks for the pics, black and white could have been the 60's.;)

  13. Those clutch explosions freak me out to the Nth degree.
The Ivo dragster is cool! As knowing HAMBers have stated, the power is additive. So the injected engine won't ''hold back'' the blown one. But it looks odd.
