  11. Was this the late Fred Steele's garage ? I see a channeled 1932 ford roadster, a "T" bucket that looks like Fred's " T" that was on the cover of the Ventures record album, and a 1928-29 Ford tudor sedan that I know that Fred had. I see that the photo came from the Gould archives. Was that George "Whitey" Gould ? I know that Fred and "Whitey" were associates.

A few years ago the current owner Don Ferguson Jr. won fist place at the Prestigious Pebble Beach Car Show for its restoration in the Class they have made for past race cars.

I'm betting the start and the stop of that ride was interesting to watch or be a part of!

Did they just strap you in at the bottom, the send you around hoping you would get enough speed to stay in the seat at the top, or did the pull you back 1/2 way up the hoop, and slingshot you forward?

Had to be retainers to keep it hooked to the rails upside down like a roller coaster. In fact, if you expand the picture you can see the device that holds the cars to the U shaped rails.

Yes @nickthebandit that pic was taken at the Steele family residence in Boxboro, Mass.
From the left you have Don Spinneys 1916 T tourer which he had when we were there in 66 and was the second owner ( I rode in that car in 2011 and 2017) Then there's Fred's Lunchbox T bucket (built by Don), then Whiteys T bucket, Fred's channaled 32 roadster, 32 fendered roadster and chopped early A sedan. Looks like the sedan was chopped but not yet painted the magenta color.

  19. Thanks Swifty. Were you here in the states with Eddie Ford ? When I lived in Connecticut I used to see Don Spinney, and Whitey Gould as well as Fred Steele frequently at the Amherst, New Hampshire flea market from April through October. Any one who had ever met Fred Steele realized that he always had some trick up his sleeve.

Yes Nick, myself, Eddie Ford and Barry Fletcher did a 6 month hot rodders tour of America in 1966. Terrific trip and we stayed with Dick Scritchfield in LA and Fred on the East coast. Fred was a practical joker and just loved to embarrass people but didn't like it happening to him. We played a trick on Fred which all of his Ty-Rods mates knew about but Fred didn't find out until years later and he was pissed!!! Have lots of stories about Fred and Don Spinney had written about 84 of "Fred events"

  22. Swifty, I agree with you saying that Fred liked to embarrass people. One year there was a group of us, including Fred at the Hershey AACA meet. Fred suggested that we go to this great Smorgasbord for supper, and we did. after we got there, the manager came up to our group and asked for me. I answered, and the manager said that Fred told him to make sure that I sat closest to the food as I had a voracious appetite. We all got a laugh out of that. Did you get to see Fred's pink, Road Fairies "T" shirt ? just another of Fred's pranks. You never knew from one minute to the next what Fred was going to do or say. This brings back great memories.
