That 1/2 hour is for their use. Its for when you call and need that tow NOW, they tell you they can be there in about a 1/2 hour. Today that time frame would be about 6 hours before they can be there, but most don't say 24 hour service anymore.

Picture taken at Palmetto park in Fontana for R&C cover/article in 1966. I was there as a 11 year old watching them taking the pics. Car belonged to Linda Chambers. Real cool car with blown flathead.

    Hello,

SBC, GMC supercharger, Gilmer Timing Belt adjustable/exchangeable pulleys for more power, etc… What is not to like? Despite the first edition of a Gilmer Belt for use with a 471 supercharger, it still gives tons of power to a competitive motor.

My brother had his idea of his (our) first hot rod build in our small but roomy backyard garage we had created out of an old “Rumpus Room.” In these days, another name could be called a “recreation room” or “rec room.” When there was only windows and an opening normal door, we used it for birthday parties, pre teen gatherings and family events of all kinds. Outside was green grass and a concrete patio for a backyard redwood dining table and a set of benches for more room for guests, when needed.

It was hidden on the other side of our mom’s vast garden + border fence. But, when we started the project to convert it to our own backyard garage, the fence came down, the huge rose plants got transplanted elsewhere and now there was a path from the front of the house to the rear. Passable with any type of car, although our dad’s large Buicks would have given us a challenge.

When we got our first motor, a long block SBC motor created by another local speed shop nearby, it was carburetor powered when fully assembled. We ran it for several months in our 1940 Willys Coupe

But, when we were ready and more confident of our abilities, we moved on to the next level, a 671 supercharged larger SBC motor and set up. Now, we were able to go after those well known racers and their record setting cars in the Gas Coupe and Sedan classes.

A new 292 SBC motor with the latest Isky-Gilmer Blower Belt Drive and Kit. All new blower spec parts and months of everyday after school hours spent in that “rumpus room,” building it carefully.
upload_2024-3-5_3-3-52.png It took another few weeks to get it fine tuned to inch closer to the national record in the B/Gas and C/Gas classes.
