Don't know/remember this rod but I wonder if the pic came from Michael Dunn's book "Hot Rods of Melbourne in the 60's" which features lots of pics of hot rods at Fishermans Bend drags in the early 60's.

Daryl Harvey's channelled 34 roadster was one of the top Melbourne hot rods in the early 60's with Y-block power, finished paint and interior. Eddie Ford did a feature on it and Daryl Finger's 34 coupe with early Poly engine , sent them to Tex Smith and they made it into Rod & Custom. Daryl was a regular competitor at Fishermens Bend. Car was purchased as a "barn find" probably 20+ years ago, turned up at a couple of events but I haven't seen it since.

Rip Kirby's roadster, another regular at the drags and another of the better cars of the day. This one is now a hi-boy running a 351 Windsor and lives about 10 miles from me.

Fair go @deadbeat, I'm no hot rod historian. I'm a country boy so didn't know a lot of what was going on in the city and there was no Internet then to keep you up to date. We used to do Garage crawls after the monthly drags but it was always on the western side (our side of Melbourne) and that's how we got to know some of the Melbourne boys.

I just finished looking at all 1259 pages! 1 thing for sure, times were simpler, and everyone looked happy. AND maybe more pictures of the pretty girls...

That was Roland Leong’s first FC, a 1969 Charger, at the time the real quick funny cars ran automatics. There’s a driveshaft and a spare in the picture and that shows just how far “out” the engines were in the early funny’s. It was Gene Snow that helped develop the early direct drive FC’s. Snow’s innovation eliminated the transmission and lengthy drive shaft putting more weight on the slicks and also got rid of the safety hazard and mess of an exploding automatic trans.

I remember that. Enclosing almost all of the fuel system in the cockpit. What could go wrong?

The 24-Hours of Le Mans follow a simple rule. The car that covers the greatest distance in 24 hours is the winner.
The McLaren/Amon car won far and square.........;)
