Looks like Fontana with the traffic signal/flagman at the starting line.

(Maybe the rail is too long to race?)

Cool picture J. This is an early New Zealand Cadillac powered dragster run by Colin Drysdale. Think I got the name right. Looks like the picture was probably taken at a place called Kopuku drag strip which was close to a coal mine area and the strip was packed down coal dust/tailings. Would probably have been early/mid 60's. I tried to buy the car but was was beaten to it by about an hour. It stills survives today with the original Cadillac engine as you see it here.

I'm liking the 26-27 'T' on 32 rails & an in-line with Wayne type head

Darrol Finger's channelled 34 Aussie coupe from Melbourne running a 56 315 cube Poly Dodge and home-made 4 carb manifold. Engine was mated to a 54 Jaguar 4 speed . A regular competitor at the Fishermans Bend drags. Car is supposedly still around, being restored minus the Dodge engine.

Can't be Victoria as our licence plates in the "good years" were always black and white. i.e white letters on a black background. Need someone to I.D. the licence plate.

  25. Kiwi's are also "down under " I was also thinking NZ as Aussie plates allways had the state designation in small letters,
