    She makes me happy!
I bet there's a few future HAMB Hall of Flamers in that bunch! Pretty sure I see Beaner with that weird knight sweater on and I think that may be Jnaki mounted on that mutt. I wouldn't want to the be the kid the cop is staring down...just sayin

    Hello,

Driving from our Westside of Long Beach home towards Bixby Knolls, I usually came out on this corner. The Ford Parts Obsolete building stood out for many miles in any direction. The old Model T on top of the building was a wonder, about how it got up there. Coming home from Bixby Knolls gave the location identifier easily, coming down from over the freeway. 1320 West Willow Street … 1320, how apropos as the 1320 Lion’s Dragstrip was just a few blocks down the Willow Street rear exit.

This side street, Fashion Avenue was safer to drive as there was less traffic and during a thick fog, that was a plus. The building was a center of activity as there were always hot rods of all kinds sitting in the front parking lot. The neighborhood hardware store was just on the next corner and it made the location a one stop shop for all things that needed repair or parts.

At the time, there was no need to go to a junk or surplus yard for parts, this store had everything in stock. Remember, it was 1957-60+ not the scarcity of today’s old parts places.

The old timers on the So Cal/Long Beach (as well as the LA South Bay folks) area will remember this location as Long Beach Freeway close or Lion’s Dragstrip close as the West winds will blow…
