This is really cool. I've thought many times about shortening a four door and sitting in the back seat to make a long hood hot rod. I think I would splice the front and back doors to make a longer door for easier access, especially since I don't bend as well as I used to, haha. I would also make it low to the ground which would limit access even more.

Maybe sort of like this, but with a bit of a haircut and not quite as long.

Photo was probably taken at Santa Maria
"The Van Wyk auto dynasty began in 1947, when Van Wyk's father, John A. Van Wyk, opened a Pontiac dealership in Santa Maria. In 1955, brothers Art and Jack Van Wyk opened a Dodge dealership in Inglewood. They worked together until 1960, when Art Van Wyk bought a Volkswagen franchise in Bakersfield. In 1983 Volkswagen was replaced with a Chrysler/Plymouth franchise."

    Another one from Santa Maria.
This blown '29 Chevrolet was caught sitting in the inspection line at Santa Maria. Known to be from Santa Barbara, it looks like one of the creations of engine and hot rod builder Jay Roach of Montecito. upload_2023-4-14_13-23-43.png

    One more from Santa Maria.
Jack Chard of the Santa Barbara Dusters sits in his flathead-powered B dragster as he waits to start a qualifying run. The dragster was built in Santa Maria using iron plumbing pipe for the frame. Scrap fenders and hoods were used to fabricate the body. upload_2023-4-14_13-27-30.png

    One more and I'll quit.
upload_2023-4-14_13-30-47.png Greg Carlson of the Santa Barbara Grave Gamblers leans up against Tom Swiggins' chopped '32 Victoria. The blown flathead sports three 16-ounce beer cans as intake stacks for the carbs, the trademark of Montecito engine builder Jay Roach. Photo is courtesy of Jack Chard.

I agree, it’s a good look but this one was done the easy way. The car is Gabby Bleeker’s Bantam coupe, seen here running an Olds before he switched to a Chrysler. Gabby had the distinction of beating Willy Borsch for the F/A title at the ‘68 Indy Nationals. He passed away last July at the age of ninety. RIP Grantland.

  25. This was a fiberglass body that Rick, from Rhode Island, popped off of a 1930-31 model a Ford. This body showed up at a swap meet about 10 years ago.

Thanks. The knowledge and history of hot rodding on this site is amazing.
