  18. That's one of the coolest 57 Chevys I've seen, and really there's nothing done to it. Lowered, lake pipes, maybe a repaint, It needs to be that lavender metallic that was stock that year, don't know the name of the paint color.

  19. This color, Dusk pearl metallic, or pearl pink would look good too.

Some might need an explaination as to why that is the cream of the crop (in my eyes) for 57 Chevy station wagons.
I got over BelAirs and Nomads years ago.

  21. I would drive the wheels off this car, it needs nothing changed. Wouldn't that be the barn find of the century!

Below at sea level, the bottom of the tall Headlands cliff. The photo could be any time before 1967-68. A fairly empty parking lot for fishermen and surfers. No sunbathing at this end of the Cove. Around the outcropping cliff at the top of the photo is the Doheny beach parking lot and surfing waves. (that cliff was cut back so the harbor roads could be put in and not worry about high tides in the normal cycles.) from Doheny Beach, The Cove was not able to be seen and vice versa.

    Hello,

In our early Southern coastal surf adventures, we stopped in Dana Point for some exciting surf spots. Of course, just up the PCH highway curve, Salt Creek was always good for great waves and three surf peaks on the long sandy shoreline. But it was around the corner of the Headlands point that got most excited. Doheny Beach was the main draw for the thousands of So Cal surfers. The waves were pretty calm and simple. The wave comes rolling in, paddle, stand up, angle for your direction and stand there, as the wave takes everyone to shore.

"Everybody's gone surfing... down Doheny way..."

But, as popular as it is/was, it got crowded fast. So, in looking up the beach from the water, we could see some waves breaking around this tall cliffside outcropping. But, the paddle was quite far. The rocky beach to the cliff outcropping, prevented most people from going up the beach. They had to turn around on the rocky beach. One time, we decided to walk around the rocky beach and hidden cliff outcropping and it opened up a whole new ballgame for us.

There behind the wall of the cliffside edge, was an almost private beach due to the tide making it almost impossible to get around the outcropping. The waves looked much better than the rollers at Doheny Beach. So, we had the time of our lives. The best point peak waves were located around the current harbor bridge to the island. It was far enough from Doheny and when one was surfing at the Killer Dana Point, it was hard to see in the distance away.

The railroad track from Los Angeles to San Diego underpass of PCH. It is still there today. Doheny State Beach Campground to the left of the photo. Killer Dana at the top left and the breakwater jetty seen is the Doheny Beach surf spot.

The curve in the cliff outcropping was destroyed to make room for the winding road around the whole Dana Point harbor that was starting in 1968-70. Some say it was destroyed due to the high tide waters coming all the way up to the cliff. Others say that if a road were to be put in place, like it is today and the cliff were still in its natural state, the harbor would have to stick farther out into the ocean and the outer breakwater. Good and bad… Well, it would have been a cool tunnel carved into the cliff to keep the road straight as it is today and still save the natural beauty of the cliff outcroppings.

    "Killer Dana" original wave state…

Once the development of the harbor started, it destroyed the multiple surf spots that were hidden from everyday view. Now, the almost secret surfing area was able to be seen from Doheny Beach. But that was a moot point, since the waters were drained from the blocked off area that is now the small boat harbor slips for the Dana Point harbor marina docks. In making the harbor, the Killer Dana point waves and any breaking waves along the shore line were gone… only the Orange Garibaldi fish are still wandering around the harbor waters, today. We could see them below our feet in the crystal blue waters, as we waited for the next set of waves coming in to the area. YRMV
