The Double Eagle ran 2-354's, and in the 80's when Pat Ganahl teamed with Gene, Don, and John Rasmussen, to go Nostalgia T/F racing, Gene still had one of the engines under the bench. So, with that engine and Don's lighting fast reflexes, they were very compe***ive with the blown cars. When they switched to a 468 incher, still un-blown with a heave load of Nitro, it boomed at the hit of the throttle and was a tough combination to beat !

Speaking of the old days at Hilborn -- Steve Batchelor made me take my pump in for testing after a season of runs at Bonneville (maybe 3 runs). They'd sometimes add some new hardware and pronounce it ready to go.

One time while I was waiting, I got caught innocently behind the counter looking at some old photos and trophies. I was embarr***ed. They said everything (with the pump) was okay, gave me a T-Shirt and wished me luck -- all with no charge.
