All that was good with the exception of the lean out the nitrous caused. I talked to Doug Cook at length one time when he found out I was installing nitrous on one of my GMC’s; Doug’s experiences may have been the same. He talked to me about how he kept the normal mixture rich at the launch to halftrack and finally adding nitrous at the end which was not how he started using it and destroying engines.
Nitrous got pretty safe in the 80’s with better nozzles and automatic retard ignitions but I lost a few pistons over time. Running a mile or 3 was way different than a 1/4 mile.
Bill Temple in the “Got Ya” fuel roadster ran a 70%+ load of nitro to the 4 mile and then actuated the nitrous/gasoline mixture for the last mile. He blew up a few too. That’s the first guy I knew who used 3 different fuels (nitro-alcohol-gasoline) with a blower and added nitrous-oxide too. I sure miss both those racers…
