I know there's a huge thread on '40s period correct hot rods, but there seems to be limitations with the thread as it was only '40s. I wanted to see if I could make a thread with a larger and more specific time period, about 1947-54. So let's see if we can find 'em!

Edit: Old pics from back then (aka El Mirage photos) are appreciated.

My car has no parts newer than 1950 (except the master cylinder). It is fairly traditional, except for the 18" wires with Excelsiors I installed this spring. It used to have Ford steelies and Firestones, which looked more traditional rather than trendy.

Oops: I forgot it also has 1957 internals in the generator to switch it to 12 volt.

  4. Mine isn't as nice (yet) as Alchemy's, but I still have the fenders, boards and hood to go on. Like his, only the m/cyl is late model. Found in a barn, it had some really bad engineering, but all old parts. 59A, 37 trans and rear, 34 x-member and rear crossmember, 34 box, original seats in black T&R, lead filled shell, firewall and modified dash. Also a gas welded top insert. I added BLC's, 55 F250 front brakes, 40 wheels and Excelsiors (yeah, I know!)

I have speed parts for my T that would be late 40's vintage but they have not made it onto the car yet, as it sits it doesn't use anything newer than 1940 (although I suppose I can't document when acorn stud covers became a thing). However I doubt anyone was buying brand-new parts from the Ford dealership in 1940 to rebuild a T, I would think they only got popular after the war when you could maybe salvage some pieces off of wrecks or something.

  6. I was watching an old "film noir" (Crime Wave '53/'54) and spotted this swell roadster:

Full dressed flatty and a deuce shell - I'm hope someone here will recognize it as I'm sure it's a well-known rod.

  7. Pretty sure that is Don Ferrera's roadster. Yes it was fairly well known, was in a couple magazines.

In 1949 at 14 years old Uncle Ray started collecting parts for his hot rod. The '27 T coupe body ended up having the top cut off since no doors could be located and extensive mods were done to the body to be more proportioned like a true roadster. He was driving it by 1953, though unfinished. Completed in late 1954, entered and won America's Most Beautiful Roadster in 1955. IMO a very distinctive style and a departure from the normal street hot rod of that time...reminds me of the Bonneville roadsters of the very early 50's 20170924_094414.png

Was going for a 40s track roadster repowered by an early small block vibe with this one.

My 29 roadster . I did a 12V Conversion albeit with an old looking dynamo. Other than that its pre 1950 (-ish) parts.

Nothing better than a twin-carb flathead.

  29. This is great with the '33 hood and grille! No rules on how you should build your hot rod back then! image.jpeg image.jpeg
