Event Coverage Traffic traps

It really has nothing to do with hot rods or customs, but don't drive through Benton TN on US 411 with an out of state tag, especially one from a distant state. This place has run an illegal speed trap racket targeting people a long way from home for decades. You don't have to actually be speeding to get a speeding ticket if you're a long way from home. I was living in Maryland the one time I dealt with them. I came through town under the 35 limit and got a ticket for 51 because the cop saw the new Ranger pickup with Maryland tags and got dollar signs in his eyes. Cop didn't lock in the radar reading because the 51 reading never existed, he just made up whatever number he wanted to. Mayor's wife--who was not a lawyer and it showed--was the judge and cashier of kangaroo court. You couldn't pay me enough to drive my truck with the 1938 year of manufacture tag through that place.

 

Monroe Wa, the city police like to sit on 522 from the Snohomish River all the way to hwy 2 all the time, sometimes several of them out there.

 

Closest I've come was a seat belt check point. Driving the 63 Falcon, cop walked over to see if we had seat belts and if so were we wearing them.

We were.

Apparently if they weren't standard equipment for an older car, you didn't need to have them. But if they had been installed along the way, you need to wear them. At least that's how I understood what he told me.

 

My uncle was a heavy drinker in the 80's and told me he would spot the police up ahead flagging everyone over. He'd pull over real quick, open the hood of his car and run into the woods, then called a tow truck to get his car. Gotta give him credit as it was a clever idea.
