    Here's my scenario.

I have a 66 Chev wagon that was running the stock 327 + powerglide. The engine went south and I found a doner car (83 Chev truck) that had a 350 + 350 trans. I dropped in the 350 engine from the truck but kept the original powerglide behind that came with the wagon. The 350 has good compression and everything seems to run fine. The problem is that the car seems to lack power. It's very sluggish.

    My question:
Is it possible that this could have something to do with the torque converter? Is it possible that I could have used the torque convertor that came with the truck (350) instead of the original that came with the powerglide? What effect would this have if any?

    Lease discuss. I'll wait.

    and thx

Unless your glide has been built with a turbo style input shaft the torque converters don't interchange. I think a stock glide one is 17 spline and a turbo is 30 spline.

  3. Agreed. One won't fit the other.

Hmmmm..... okay. That seems to eliminates one possibility.

Check some numbers on that 350 engine. Maybe it is supposed to be sluggish, like in 305??? A 305 would need a lower 1st gear as in a 350 trans. Could also be a miss-adjusted kick down detente rod not allowing a kick down to low when you get on the hammer.
