    Heres what IM into.
51 F1 with a 302/C4 IM looking at running a stock 6 banger radiator with no trans cooler. Will an add on trans cooler be enough to cool my c4?
I have a modern radiator for the 302/C4 with the cooler but it needs a whole mounting bracket made, the 6 banger bolts right in and lines up with the 302 and I know its good. The po had it hooked to a 283 Chevy.
Just wondering does an after market add on trans cooler work good enough by its self?

  2. Should work even better than the one in your radiator..... Try to mount it where it gets lots of air...

I'm cooling a 700R4 with an add on cooler with no problem. I have a B&M trans temp gauge on it and it stays under 200 deg. The c4 doesnt have a lock up convertor and may heat up more then the 700R4 though. Invest in a temp guage for it whatever you do.

Yes. If it is the right size, and mounted so that air can actually pass over it.... I don't ever use the radiator exchanger ones...I like having them separate, for a variety of reasons...

  5. probably depends on how big a load you're gonna be pulling.
But yes if you don't cheap out and buy one that's not big enough you should be just fine. I don't doubt that someone else will disagree.

I'm useing the oil cooler out of a japenese import in the stude. Not trad but either is the ultra zot small block or the T 400

    Install a trans temp gauge!
You might not need more than you already have.
Using $5 per quart oil makes a big difference also.
