Ok, I'm not a pro builder nor do I play one on TV. I am chasing down what I believe to be a drive line vibration. I jacked the old girl way up in the air so I could get my fat ass under it. Check out the cool custom tranny mount the guy that installed the tranny made. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1400083558.832628.jpg Reminds me of grade 10 shop class.

  2. That may not be a Pro Built mount but what do yo think is wrong with it? As long as it's tight, I doubt it is the source of your vibration.

  3. Is there any rubber in the mount? HRP

Hey, I did some of my best work in 10th grade shop!

  5. Yeah, looks like no rubber in there. Put anything in there temporarily, like a couple slices of an old tire tread, tighten it (not too tight) and see if it improves the situation.

  6. Come on guys, look a little closer. That's a common Ford falcon/mustang trans mount. Yes there's rubber there.

Yes there is a mount under it. The cross member seems to have flex in it. I can move it by hand. I am going to check the angles. Is the trans pan an ok place to check the angle of the transmission?

The spacers lift the trans above the cross member. I will get some better pics in a few days. Waiting for my camera to be repaired.
The whole car was restored 26 000 miles ago. Fresh alignment.
It vibrates badly at 65 mph then starts up again at 75 mph.

  9. Not having any idea what you have for a drive train I would have to say no to using the Trans Pan. I would say use the Pan to block rail of the motor, after all it's crankshaft centerline your looking for.

  11. I believe a C-6 pan is 90* to the block but check to be sure. Been a while since I handled one of those and don't have one I can go check.

Thanks, just by eyeballing it looks like
trans points up hill towards the rear of the car.

  13. If you were to ask you'll get a lot of Chatter about right and wrong up and down motor angle. Sometimes a motor just has to go where it will in a swap, especially an FE in a early chassis. The important thing is that the crank shaft C.L. matches pinyon C.L. at loaded ride height. The actual angle is a non issue.

  14. Strange how things happen. I was in a back room digging for some parts when I spotted a loose C-6 just sitting there. Forgot I even had it. I checked pan to block with a framing square. The pan surface Is Not 90* to the Block surface. It grows 1/2" back to front of pan. You would not see that laying on your back. I would not use that to set Pinyon angle. Go to the block.

    Thanks Wizzard,
That is about right. The engine appears to be close to level. I will crawl back under there and check the pinion angle and the angle of the trans.
    Thanks

Ok, sorry to take so long to get back at this but has been a hell of a summer. The Monarch is back together and on the road. I fixed all the nasty leaks under the car. Serviced the C-6, changed the oil and installed a new oil plug.
The vibration came down to a bad tire and worn out shocks that just amplified the issue.
I still have to install the shocks but that is not an issue.
I installed a Holley hi perf mechanical fuel pump along with a new glass fuel filter, the old pump had one built into it.
Last winter I put in a new Isuzu steering box and that has been awesome. This winters pre Viva improvement is to rewire the car.
I am going to by a generic hot rod kit and go from there.
