Need a little advise. Had to pull the 272 & Ford-o-matic out of the car. They need a rebuild and I don't have the funds. I do have a rebuilt 302 and a merc-o-matic 3 spd and yoke out of a 67 cougar. I also have a rebuilt C6. Will the C6 fit and bolt in easily? I would like to use it.

The C6 will only work if it's a SB trans . they came both ways on the C6 , BB & SF .
I would use the C4 before the C6 . The C4 is lighter and easier to get parts for plus the C6 will rob you of the most HP at the rear wheels of all the transmissions made ! It is also harder on gas too .
With the 302 you will need new motor mounts plus you will have to get a drift shaft too . There are no drive shaft swaps when you swap in a 302 .
Why don't you leave the Y block in and get a trans adapter for the C4 to bolt up to the Y block . Will be a lot easier to do that way then swapping a motor & trans .
What is wrong with the Y block & trans you have now ?

On the driveshaft if the C-4 or AOD came from a Cougar or Mustang it is about 1 1/4" inches shorter that one from a full size car, My'54 with an AOD and a 302 has a 1986 Crown Vic driveshaft which has the correct front yoke for either transmission, the conversion U-joint to bolt up to your stock rear is a NEAPCO 2-0291 My transmission came from a full size Lincoln so driveshaft was shortened 1 1/4". I would sell the C6 and get a C4 or AOD.

Thanks yall, the Y block and fordomatic have been sitting and need a rebuild. O have the mercomatic out of a cougar. It is ready to go but I didn't know if the yoke from cougar would work with the driveshaft that's in the car. I guess not. I'm gonna sell the Y to help buy some of the parts. Thanks again.

If the trans pan is a small square one then it's a C4 and is a very good trans !

Thanks again for the help. It has the small pan with 11 bolts. It is out of the 67 and stamped 12 66. Looks like its a C4.
