Trans swap on Dodge flathead

Just about to get back intyo the shed and start working on the old girl. It's been cold enough here to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. So, I'm thinking of swapping the trans on my 54 Kingsway to something a bit newer (read: easier to get parts for). Probably still go for a 3 speed manual with a floor shift, but the option of an auto has some benefits as well, as my bride will be able to drive it.

I'm interested to hear what sort of trans swaps people have done with the MOPAR flathead. It's a 230CI, 23" block.

The other thing is I picked up another engine. Will the 6volt starter run on 12 volts or do I need to get it converted?
