trying to get back at the fiat a bit..got a short (i hope) hold on the cincy house...... a 1/2" inch looks good inside on the floor....foot and pedal room wise,,,,but i have no idea how much the 325 hemi and wc t-5 are going to move around....rubber mounted of the biscuit style motor mounts and standard stock type mount on the t-5.....also, if it makes a difference, i'm using a rotated camaro bell housing,,,,don't know if that reduces-increases torque rise in the motor-trans of makes any difference.... thanks for the advise as always........
If you are worried about movement, you can very likely get a stiffer aftermarket urethane trans mount, but I would say 1/2" is a minimum anyway..
well, i searched.....and searched....depends on who ya ask...several talk of 1/2" being fine...others say 1" min.....and all from people i have seen build nice hot rods...... if i had a clutch setup,, i could strain it and see how much it flexes the drive line............
1/2 inch is fine. If something moves more than that something broke. When I do trans tunnels, I bolt the trans to the engine with 2" longer than stock bolts, and 2 inch spacers between engine and trans. Then build the tunnel, install proper bolts again and done. That allows built in room to pull the trans back if you have to remove it later.
As mentioned up^- if things are moving around=flexing that much, you might be into other problems. Just give yourself enough room to hit the bell bolts with a wobbly socket and/or wrench. In some cases, easier to split engine/trans for removal...as far as the middle of the case,i'de go 1/2 minnimum, but 1'' would be good.Just remember that the closer the floor is to the trans, the warmer (floor)she'll be.......
