I think changes to my 41 Merc are pretty much done. It's necessary that the car have power steering and disc brakes. I’m a disabled Vietnam Vet with a bullet in my left chest cavity and left thigh and also shot though the right thigh and upper right arm. At this time I’m able to do all work on the car, it just takes longer. I installed a 605 Saginaw box on a Speedway bracket to the stock Merc bracket that is weak so I did some welding. If I had removed the fender I would have put bolts though the brackets and frame. I used an EBAY bracket to mount the GM pump to the Ford 302 and changed the exhaust manifold to one that dumped out the rear, also an Ebay item. I installed a complete disc brake kit, a Posies super slider spring, panard bar, drag link and new tie rods ends all from Speedway. I bolted on a steering damper from SoCal and a sway bar from a dude in California, four US steel wheels from Sumitt and tires from Discount Tire Direct. The car came with Mustang pedals and floor shifter that really*****ed. The shifter is now back on the column and new pedals in. The steering wheel is repaired, painted and moved three inches closer to the dash. All the plastic on the dash is repaired with PC-7 epoxy and repainted. A Sony sound system is now behind the chrome speaker grill. I drove the Merc yesterday and upgrades were well worth the time and money. Before Now Restored dash
Hey Guys Thanks for the positive comments. I think it’s got that moon shiner look now. I wasn’t in the market for a four door, but I had never seen a 41 Merc before so I made the deal and I’m very pleased. People ask me if I changed the front clip on my Ford. It’s one of those cars that grow on ya the longer you have it. Needless to say it’s disabled now because I didn’t change the brake master cylinder when the discs were installed. I’m waiting for a new 7” booster, master cyl and proportioning valve****embly. Take care, Dave
I like it, I think the grille is especially nice, reminds me of the 48 Ford the "neighbor kid" had back in the late 50's, I got to drive it a couple of times, good memories.
