    Hello to all
I have a 53 dodge b4 truck.i purchased a complete running 53 desota Hemi 276 with a 37 lasalle trans. This setup was used for the last ten years. The trans has a closed shaft. I have a 99 Cherokee rear- open shaft.what do I need to do to convert the trans?2nd. I have the original 4 speed trans. Which I like and I like the trans shaft emergenc brake.could I use the dodge trans behind the Hemi - would it hold up? Between the two what’s recommended? And which would be cheaper to convert? Thanks

The 37 lasalle should have an open shaft unless it was converted to closed. You need to find a stock 37 shaft and tailhousing and yoke. You should post a pic. It was probably converted for use with a Ford torque tube at some point.

  4. I'm sure someone would swap an open tail shaft and outer tail housing for your conversion pieces and maybe you could pick up a few bucks as well. Its an expensive conversion to have done if you don't have the equipment. There is very little to change on the case itself. just drill and tap. Most of the work and expense is in having the shaft re-splined.

  5. Try to find a 50 olds shaft and housing, its a direct replacement and quite a bit shorter than the Cad LaSalle.

This is where good clear photos of what you have help guys figure out what you are up against a whole lot.
Depending on what bellhousing you have the Dodge granny 4 speed should be a bolt in but you have to figure out what they changed to use the Lasalle trans behind that engine.

  7. Agreed. Need pics. Without them you are likely to get going in the wrong direction.
