What transmission fluid should I run in a Fordomatic? Also what is the best procedure to check the fluid level. I know how to do it in newer vehicles, but is it the same for a '54 fordomatic?

I think Fordomatics use Type "F" fluid, but don't quote me on it.

I use dex/merc, but I think type f is what most will suggest. My transmission has been planned to be replaced eventually, but for the past 5 years, with leaks everywhere, dex/merc has treated me well. Ymmv. For the power steering, I use type f

Also, in park with the engine running, preferably at temperature.
