Got a quick question...I just put a rebuilt 2004 R in my 49 pickup, trans sat on the shelf for 6 years or so, bagged up, and safe. But in the truck, it doesn't respond to the TV cable...adjusted it, new cable, correct bracket and adapter on the Holley carb. The trans acts like it isn't hooked up at all...very soft shifts, very low RPMs, even in I floor it. Cable is adjusted so it is bottomed out at WOT.
Any ideas how to free up whatever valve may be stuck...in desperation I even threw in some Lucas Trans additive.

When you pull on the cable does it fill like it is hooked up to a spring?

  3. Look at BowTie Overdrives web site they give lots of thing to look at. One big thing they talk about is pressure checks as the TV cables moves. Low pressures can smoke these trans quickly.

Lot of things could be going on at the same time. saltflats is right the cable can unhook. you should be able to see if it is hooked up right. next would be a week spring. you should have a new spring with a rebuilt trans. (always replace the spring ) next look over the cable and cable mounts. some cables can be shortend. now you need to know if the carb is fully opened when peddel is smashed to the floor. if not fix that now. back to the TV cable. reset and try again. if its still wrong don't drive it

If you have resistance when pulling on the tv cable, try adjusting the cable so that at max throttle your actually flexing the cable bracket. if still no change you will have to pull the valve body down to unstick the throttle valve,
