I have a 1963 mercury Monterey (ford Galaxie ) with a mercomatic auto trans . Twice now while driving it pushed trans fluid out breather and dipstick tube . Enough to let me sit along road . I'm getting fluid thru cooler lines and radiatior . Anyone have any idea what my problem could be . It's after driving about 10 miles . I assume something is causing over heating . It cools down and u can drive it again

If any auto trans is over full it will push it out the breather when it warms up.

Does the tranny seem to work fine? Could be a problem with the converter (to much stall)
Check modulator could be causing high pressure.

  5. Sounds to me like the converter is back draining into the pan. Those trans were known to have what was called morning sickness where the converter would drain back over night due to a bad check ball in the pump. Never heard of it happening while driving though. I was going to say a pluged vent tube could cause it but you say fluid comes out it so that can't be the case.

If it has some age and miles on it, could still be pulling, but have enough wear that it is slipping a little and building heat, causing it to puke.
