    Has anyone had this problem?
I recently dropped my 302/c4 combination into the 54 victoria. Im using the 86 lincoln Mark VII motor mounts. All seems well with the motor sitting nicely and plenty of clearance for my oil pan.
My problem is the transmission mount. I have an energy suspension mount, but the placement of the transmission mount to the crossmember is a few inches (two) forward. It doesn't even rest on the c-member.
Has anyone had this problem. All I have read is its a simple bolt on and I'm wondering if I'm completely missing something.
    Any remidy is greatly appreciated.

if the 54 is like my 55. whoever put it in my car , moved the cross member . they had butcherd it . i fixed it right. might be as simple as moving it . if i remember right there are 2 sets of holes it can bolt into. if not just make a flat plate to do the job.

I did have a guy with that problem,my advice was to install the engine and transmission as a unit, bolt the transmission mount in first loosely then lower the engine into place, when you had the engine out you might have noticed there are two slotted holes in the original ford frame mounts, you might be in the wrong hole.My advice worked for Him,in some cases the slots were off from the factory and needed to be slightly elongated. If you would like send me a pm with your email and I'll send you pics of my '54's mounts installed.

Hi guys When I installed a 302/c4 combo in my 55 I had to make a new transmission crossmember, moving it back 2.5 inches. I wanted the engine as close to firewall as I could get it. This way I would have room for a cooling fan blade before it hit the radiator.(still had to move radiator to 6 cyl position.)

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll take a look this afternoon after work. I have a feeling I'll need to build a new crossmemeber, but I'm going to try JeffB's strategy once before and hopefully with some luck I'll be set.
I also took a look at the stock mount on the old Fordomatic. I may be able to use that with some cutting and welding.

I had the same problem when installing a toploader 4 speed in my 54. I used a flat plate to make up the difference.

Well when I do my 302/C4 with the Mark engine mounts they will go all in together . Once the engine & trans is in place then I will just make either a plate or a new trans cross member . It's not that hard , really . That is one of the easiest things to make when installing an engine and trans in a different car .
