I've been toying with the idea of keeping my coupe and building it to have more fun. I did a search but couldn't find any articles on what transmissions+kits will swap for the original gear box while keaping the original four banger. I have seen the boxs that come with synchronized gears from 2nd to 3rd but do I have any other option? maybe somthing that provides more gears or better preformance.
I am in the process of installing a S10 Chevy T-5 five speed transmission into a Model-A using a Auto restorations Kit 895.00 plus shipping 1-800-955-3139 (no-web site but will sent a infro pack). I've got one of these, I didn't fit it, it came in a tudor I bought. Yeah, it's a good trans but some of the fitting kit needs sorting. I don't like how the rear wishbones mount, so I modified that a touch. If you can get hold of an AA bellhousing, you can pretty much fit whichever trans you'd like behind a banger. I fitted a mid '60's Volvo 4-speed behind my other one and that works great. There's a tech I did somewhere on the HAMB, probably in the tech section.
