I was attempting to replace the gasket on the transmission pan and change the filter inside last night when one of the bolts wouldn't tighten down when trying to bolt the new filter on. I checked the other bolts in that hole and they wouldn't catch anything either. There were definitely metal flakes that come out when I pulled on of the bolts out and now I'm confused on what the proper method is to repair this problem, can someone give me insight on what to do?

If it is only one hole you could tap it to the next larger size,if you can't borrow a helicoil tap set.

I would just tap out new holes IF there is room for bigger ones or just go to auto parts store and get a helicoil kit . The kits aren't that much .

Sounds like the bolt stripped out, time for a HeliCoil. Easy Fix to do. Any Napa or Carquest should have them in stock. take in the old bolt to match the thread pitch and diameter. Last HeliCoil kit I bought was 19.99 at pepboys, came with the installation tool.

Let us know if you have any qesstions on the HeliCoils, they are pretty easy to do but you do need a drill of some kind.
