I have a 55 customline with a ford-o-matic auto trans needeing a rebuild and a 272 engine. I've come across a ford-o-matic from a 64 third and was curious if this will bolt up to my car. Any help is appreciated.

That Fordo is an air cooled 3 speed with an automatic 2nd gear start. Everything past 55 was liquid cooled in the radiator, so you'll need to run lines to an external cooler. Why do you wanna change?

A rebuild isn't a big deal on those. They have metal frictions which never wear out. The band always goes out of adjustment on those. Find a REPUTABLE Trans shop and let him service it first.
Unless its leaking like a sieve, then yeah, a rebuild is cheaper than chasing leaks.
