I purchased a Studebaker from near Lake Tahoe and am considering options to get it out to Colorado where I live. I have never shipped a car, I usually just go get them but Im in a time crunch and am having to consider having it delivered/transported to me. For those that have shipped what options do you recommend IE commercial shipper etc?
What kinda condition is the car in? A pile of parts takes considerably more shipping consideration and cost than if the shipper can simply drive it on a trailer at a convenient location, then meet you in a wide open lot to drop it off as opposed to a cramped driveway in a congested area. I had a running truck shipped from Salem Oregon to Carson city NV for $250. It was able to be driven to the local high school, driven on the truck, Dropped at the shippers location then driven the half mile to my shop.
There are 3 QUALITY Transporters here on the Hamb : BenD, Racinman Rick & Myself. You can see our ads in the Hamb O Dex section. If you are in a time crunch though, you will probably have to take what you can get because we are all booked well in advance at all times. I personally have no openings till mid August except for a spot from Ohio to Nebraska in late July. Best of Luck!
Go get it ... If it runs & drives I would drive up with someone and have them follow you back. You are not going to find direct enclosed transport from Lake Tahoe to your area - especially on short notice .... Watch the weather report - Las Vegas, NV was hit with golf ball size hail last Thursday. http://lasveg***un.com/news/2016/jul/01/storm-pounds-vegas-with-hail-winds-lightning-flood/ I know of a guy who had his car destroyed hail after a guy towed it into a widely forecasted hail storm ..... NEVER ship a car on an open trailer .... Jim
All great advice. Shipping is all set. Glad to know there are some HAMBers in the business and glad to hear your all booked up and busy. Thanks for the great information.
I'm not in total agreeance with you on that, ive shipped some very nice cars open trailer and did just fine
I know im late to the game but Tahoe can be very hard to ship in and out of due to terrain...not alot of folks wanna drive big rigs up there...hope it worked out for you
