Does this get picked up anywhere in particular or does the hauler just drive around looking for one? And yes, I'm being a little bit smart-ass.
I see in your other posting you mentioned $400. Hmm? Seems a bit light. You want a guy to supply the truck, insurance, pay taxes for a 5.5 hour one way trip, 5.5 back, a 11 hour day, the gas back and forth to cover the 365 miles there and 365 back. $3.50 a gal, 20 mpg in the truck. Seems like buddy is making $12 an hour for all that responsibility. Put like that doesn't $400 sound light? Well, I'm just thinking if I'd be motivated, by greed or hotrod kinship to do that here and no, I wouldn't. I'm not sure if that's because I'm just unwilling to help out, don't need the lost day of my life for a chance to make $400, No drive to do the drive or if maybe the juice wasn't worth the squeeze if something went wrong. That distance is after all, 1/5 the cost of an oil change? Just saying, it's a lot to ask. Right up there with pop on a diaper and drive.
You are looking at 365 miles one way or somewhere in the neighborhood of 730 miles and 11 hours of highway speed drive time. 400 may not be enough when you figure that it is going to take around 200 bucks worth of fuel when the day is done. That's if they get 15mpg
Lol...looking for help, must be good at digging, capable of carrying about 190 lbs, and able to keep a secret.
Most of these hauling requests hope that someone is already headed that way on a personal trip or something like that. The person that needs something shipped hopes someone can just throw the part in their vehile and then will help with the expenses of the trip. Or at least that is how I read it! Bones
Well it is on an iPhone 7
I think he's hoping to find someone who happens to be driving that way anyhow, rather than making a special trip. But that's just my speculation.
Same map but unless he finds someone who travels that route who wants to pick up a few bucks the guy willing to jump in is truck for a road trip has to do at least double that 364.8 to go to KC to pick up the body and then to Yokon to drop it off and then back home. Somewhere 99% of the guys are going to end up with at least 365 miles running empty. unless he finds someone who runs from points south of Yokon to Kansas city and back on a regular basis who can do it for him anyone else has to make a round trip that he is trying to avoid.
Check with my friend & fellow Transporter @David Robert Phelps who I brought onto the Hamb to help with my overflow! I can't speak specifically to his schedule, but we do communicate a couple of times a week & I believe he is headed to Texas. Now with a 24 ft enclosed trailer that we both have, he needs to have a small car on his schedule for that route or they will both NOT fit! I have transported DOZENS of new "Firewall Back" bodies from Dearborn Classics or Brookville on a rolling pallet made for just this occasion, but again we cannot fit a 59 Cadillac & a body in a 24 ft enclosed trailer! As to the price requested....If I had something going that way, I would be pretty close on price (maybe $185.00 more would have got me to do it) God Bless Bill https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...ar-transport-hauling-open-or-enclosed.614419/
When I first opened my business in 1983, part of it was selling Southern Body Parts to Northern Ohio Junk Yards, Body Shops & the Public. There were many times when my friends would goof on me a bit & call to see if I had a Great Set Of Southern Hooters with a drawl for sale! Well it is on an iPhone 7
Thats 7 versions of iPhones ahead of me Besides, AAA still gives them out for free and I'm a member since 77. That's my version! And damn, after Mr48chev went topographical road map, yea, that's a drive alright. Like Bill mentioned, and in all fairness, a couple more Ben Franklin's would probably have been enough of an enticement to get buddy a transport for the body. Easy money for a day's work with a truck or for a fuel miser car with a hitch pulling a small trailer and a body Griswald style.
