We are finally getting something done. This weekend I finished welding up the crossmember pieces I got from El Poloko (Nice kit Steve, thanks!) and got it welded onto the frame. The lower control arms came with the strut rods but I'm not sure how well they'll work with the heim joints. What do you all think?
I have a 37 coupe with the same style compression rod with heim joint that has been on the road for 15 years and MANY thousands of miles - been across the country a few times
I've wondered this myself, i can't see why it wouldn't work, so I'm interested also in what the opinions are.
That's just what I wanted to hear Hotroddon, thanks! I'll make the frame brackets for the heims tomorrow. Thanks also RCM59 but I've already got some spindles. I ordered the Speedway 11" brake kit the other day for her. I don't think I could have gotten the individual parts cheaper than they had it packaged. I've got some 31 spline axles for the narrowed Ford 9 inch on the way but haven't found a 31 spline traction lok yet. I need to start replacing the wood in the body but think I'll work on placing the engine and trans first. Hard to face that wood replacement.
Re the wood, you obviously have fab talent, I'd look into replacing the wood in the body with metal, the body will be more stable & easier to sell when your eyes start to wander towards your next project.
Yeah, been there, done that. I replaced the wood, or where wood should have been, on my 31 Pontiac. I had no way to bend square tube at the time so I would slice, bend, and reweld to get the curve. A TON of work! After that I said I'd never do it again but this sedan came along cheap. $168 off of ebay but missing a bit of the front sheetmetal. I've gathered the rest of that since. I picked up a ring roller a few weeks ago and modified it so it had more room in the throat. 1" fits now. I did a test and it works smooth. Should make things a lot easier than slicing and welding for the curve. Check it out here. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=785001&highlight=ring+roller
I knew you could do it! Looks like it went well. The HEIM thing works just fine. You can turn the body 90º and it would still work fine. Just make sure that the body doesn't contact the mounting brackets during the suspension travel and you are good to go.
I did a 37 chevy truck ch***is and had to notch the ch***is for MII steering arms to clear. Not sure if ch***is are the same tho.
So did I. Just had to get off my ****. ;-) No problems at all Steve, thanks! Travis has set a pretty aggressive timetable to get her on the road. He's a pretty tough boss so I'd better get after it. Actually He's been pretty good about helping. Hope he's learning.
